Groovy things to do while in San Francisco -- from strolling down funky Haight Street to taking in flicks at the famous Castro Theater.

Overview

If you enjoy independent cinema, catch a movie at either The Roxy in the Mission district, The Red Vic on Haight Street, or the beautiful Castro theater on Castro Street. Love vintage clothing shops? Haight street is littered with second hand clothes stores, as well as groovy little eateries and bars. This is also a great area for people watching.
My cheap restaurant tip is L'Avenita's on Irving and 7th avenue. They offer excellent burritto's in the -4 range.

Quick Tips:

Animal lovers might want to pop into the San Francisco SPCA. You have to see this place to believe it! Cats and dogs live in stylish condo's, some with their own televisions. (I'm not kidding). The SFSPCA is located on 16th Street in the Mission.

Best Way To Get Around:

Street cars and buses are a fairly reliable way to get around the city. If you're in town for an extended period of time I would recommend getting a weekly () or monthly () pass.

Restaurant

The Crepevine, in the Sunset district of San Francisco, serves -- big surprise here -- crepes. The portions are huge and relatively cheap. A dinner crepe comes with a salad and potatoes for approximately 7 to 8 bucks. You can also get the usual breakfast fare here. High marks to The Crepevine's Chai tea and friendly staff.
