This was our second trip to Paris, and there was plenty to do and see. We saw the Louvre and the Eiffel Tower on our first trip, which was quick, only a weekend, so we had lots to do and see this last trip. We took a day trip to the Loire Valley to two castles and toured a winery. We had a wine tasting in Paris with O Chateau--wow! The shopping was fabulous! Our favorite restaurant is Leo Le Lion, in the Latin Quarter I think. I got that recommendation from Rick Steves Paris travel book. The waiter speaks pretty good English and the food was the best I have ever tasted!
Quick Tips:
We planned ahead on this trip and planned the entire week online. Unfortunately, hubby had problems with swollen ankles and I had to go shopping to get him a cane to get around! Check out the travel guides available in your local bookstores for suggestions for dining, but also check with your concierge and just walk around and find places that seem to be popular. We had great luck with this! I bought the Fodor's French for Traveler's book with a CD and listened to it almost every day for about a month before we left and understood and spoke enough French to be able to navigate the city and order from a menu without being surprised about what would arrive on our plates!Best Way To Get Around:
We bought metro tickets and used them to get around the city. Paris has the best mass transit system, but during the summer solstice, we had to wait for a train several times. The taxis were pretty good, but fast and scaaaarrrry! I kept my eyes closed almost all the way to the airport! The taxi is pretty expensive, and if you can use the metro (my hubby's bad ankles prevented that at the end of our trip), by all means, take advantage of it. I think the metro passes also would let us ride the buses, but we never did.
