I recently had a delightful week in the beautiful Texas Hill Country. The trip provided an opportunity to revisit with old friends and to advance my genealogy search by finding some of my family. Bandera is a great destination!

Best Things Nearby:
The city of Bandera is the greatest thing nearby. We also found that we were within an hour of San Antonio and went there twice.

Best Things About the Resort:
The units at the resort are wonderful and spacious. The resort has a nice pool and hot tub but provides no activities for guests.

Resort Experience:
Our two-bedroom loft unit was on two levels and was perfect for us. We had two old friends join us for two nights, and I was able to give them my bedroom and use a pullout sofa in the loft area, providing all of us with space and privacy. We had decks off both levels of the unit and watched the deer each morning and evening from the decks. Our unit had one king-size and two twin beds, in addition to the pullout sofas in living room and loft.

Riley's Bar-B-Q
Riley's Bar-BQ is a very casual place located on the square across the street from the historic old Blanco County Courthouse in Blanco, TX. You go through a cafeteria line to order your meat, side dishes, and dessert. We had the chicken, beef, and ribs during our visits there, and we found all to be very delicious. The blackberry cobbler is to die for! (For more info, go to www.rileysbarbq.com/.)

Billy Gene's Restaurant
We dined around 1:30pm on a Sunday afternoon. We were celebrating our friend's mother's 87th birthday. The food and service were good. The restaurant was a little crowded, but the servers were very organized. The five of us selected a variety of Mexican food, Yankee pot roast, chicken fried steak, and other entrees. All reported that the food was good.

The San Antonio Zoo
We had visited the San Antonio Zoo when we were very young and wanted to see it again. We spent most of an entire day there and really enjoyed ourselves. After we saw the animals, we took the train around Breckenridge Park. We picked a pretty day and all had a very good time.
The Beautiful San Antonio RIver Walk
We met family at the Alamo and walked over to the River Walk. We walked until we found a restaurant we all liked and had lunch together there. We picked the Lone Star Steak House, and the food was very good. Our family had other commitments, so they left after lunch, and the rest of us headed over to the ticket office for the riverboats. We enjoyed our riverboat tour and beautiful San Antonio River.
A Visit to the Alamo
We visited the Alamo and then waited for our family to meet us. We enjoyed seeing the Alamo again. The gardens behind the Alamo have beautiful trees, plants, and fountains and provide a peaceful setting in the middle of the city.
Let's Go to Luckenbach, Texas
We couldn't leave the Texas Hill Country without a visit to Luckenbach. We found it easily and took plenty of time to hear music, buy postcards, and do other shopping. There were several very talented singers inside the store, and we enjoyed their music very much. It would be fun to visit during July 4th, when Willie Nelson has his annual concert there, but parking must be pretty horrible!
