Rainy days and sunny days in Boracay

An October 2005 trip to Boracay Island by writeonthespot

Going back to Boracay, not in the summer season, is a different trip altogether. Despite the drizzle and the clouds, the fine sand and the crystal-clear waters remain enticing.

The serene beachfront
Even when it's not summer in Boracay, this island resort is still as enticing as ever. The boat ride is still exciting as you pass by all the resorts from Station 3 to Station 1. Banana boat rides and parasailing are aplenty. Don't miss those beautiful sand castles by the shore that speak of the artistic talents of many Filipinos. Of course, Boracay is known not only for its white-sand beaches and its blue-green clear waters. It is also where most celebrities and personalities are seen during long holidays and vacations, as its nightlife comes alive in different bars and restaurants along the beach and at D'Mall. A henna tattoo and massage is a great way to spend your day when you are not in the water. Try the seafood dishes and other native delicacies. D'Mall is the best place to shop, look around, and meet friends. More and more shops and stalls are constructed here. The last time I was here, there was an Octoberfest concert, and since it was a long holiday in time for All Saints' and All Souls' Day, vacationers were abuzz and excited for the live performances and gigs. Station 1 is a bit exclusive, with less people going there and a sanctuary for people who just want to bask under the sun and not be seen in the crowded places. At the end of the long beach is Boracay Terraces, near the rocks and the caves, which is perfect for sightseeing. It is nice to just lie down by the beach, just feeling the breeze of the wind and playing Frisbee or another sport perfect in a beach setting. But whenever the rain comes or when it drizzles, staying in one of the restaurants or just enjoying the beautiful accommodation of our resort is a welcome respite.

Quick Tips:

In October there's a concert party at D'Mall for San Miguel Beer's Octoberfest. Most bars, like Pier One, Cocomangas, Hey Jude, and Club Paraw, have events in high and peak seasons. Enjoy the bars and the restaurants at night. You can also do some island hopping or visit other beach resorts with just a P120 per head () in a boat that can fit 10 to 12 people. There are gears that can be rented for scuba diving or for snorkeling. It is best to bring your gear but if you don’t have any, it is not a problem with many stalls offering equipment rental. Just make sure you ask around and bargain for the lowest price. Henna tattoo and massage costs about P100 – P150 depending on how you haggle. There are those that are really very cheap but there are others who have skyrocketing prices, taking advantage of foreigners who are willing to take their price.

Best Way To Get Around:

There are tricycles, bicycles, golf cars, and mini-jeepneys plying the small road of Boracay. But to get from one point of Station 1 to another station, you can either walk along the fine sand or rent a bike. There are also small boats that offer you a tour of the island as well as neighboring islands. It is best to take their offer when you are going in groups. Don't forget to bargain to get a better deal in everything. When in doubt, visit the local tourism office located in between Station 2 and Station 3 for assistance.

Pearl of the Pacific
The accommodation is complete and comfortable and has various amenities to enjoy, like the pool, the spa and the beachside nipa huts. It is perfect for conferences and team building with their location and available rooms. It is also at the beachfront, which makes our stay more enjoyable.

Though it is quite far from the night scene, it has a bit of privacy and is accessible by tricycle. Bars are just a walk away but be careful not to get drunk or you might never make it to your room.

Bora Seafood and Chicken Haus
The food was delicious but not exceptional, something you could enjoy in other Filipino restaurants. The price is affordable, but the waiting time for the food is quite long. They have to cook the food, and some of the food on the menu is not available. You better go there early for lunch to ensure that the food you like is still being offered.

The shooters are the best with its sweet taste but very strong effect. It is perfect for large groups and parties! The sounds are cool and hip, and you and your friends can dance barefoot on the fine, cool sand of Boracay. You can also meet friends just walking by the beach. Disco lights and sounds abound and you can already enjoy dancing by the beach by just listening to the loud music of nearby pubs and bars. It's a perfect place to be seen and to enjoy!

Fountain at D'Mall
If the beach is not filled with people, then rest assured that some of them are just hanging around, either dining in one of the restaurants or going shopping—done in just one place, D'Mall. This is something which is a major attraction in Boracay. Most people spend half their time swimming in the blue-green waters and the other half just strolling around D'Mall. Thus, it comes as no surprise to find major outlets here that originate from Manila. Accessories, shirts, bags, slippers, souvenir items... you name it, and D'Mall has it all for you. There are great bargains if you know how to strike a deal. Apart from the stalls that attract shoppers, D'Mall has benches for tourists to just sit down and watch people pass by. At night, there are some events and happenings here for people to enjoy.
