An October 2005 trip to Roatan by scubatanks

Paya Bay Resort in Roatan has some great reviews. I found the resort to be an ultimate escape with terrific diving and snorkeling.

Best Things Nearby:
Scuba-diving reefs on the east end are pristine and have a lot of fish life. Snorkeling was also excellent.

Best Things About the Resort:
Spectacular views and private beach

Resort Experience:

Paya Bay Resort is built on small peninsula with beaches on both sides. It is a small 10-room resort built far out on the east end of Roatan island. It is the ultimate de-stress place for R&R. If you need constant activity and marble bathrooms, skip this resort. This is old-style colonial Caribbean architecture. The building of this resort was a true labor of love by the owners.

The rooms are either cliff view or over the ocean. We chose the cliff view with a panoramic view of the oven and the hills. Next time, we will try the ocean view, as the waves will lull you to sleep. They also have a full dive program with an excellent instructor and dive sites. The pictures on their web site are much better than the ones I took. The staff was great and like many small resorts it felt more like family. The resort is very isolated on the east end, so food is included.

This is a great place for escape or romantic isolation; it would not be good for families, as kids would get bored. It is the tropics, so bring bug spray.
