A Month in Chicago

A September 2005 trip to Chicago by drkayes

Visiting Chicago is one of the most wonderful visits. Chicago has a beautiful skyline with all of the different-sized and -shaped buildings. To look at the skyline and enjoy the beauty of the Sears Tower against the beautiful sky is wonderful.

I was able to visit the Museum of Science and Industry there. This is one of the greatest museums in the country. I have visited museums in San Diego, Los Angeles, and Phoenix, and nothing compares to Chicago's. I also was able to see the Brookfield Zoo, a large and fascinating zoo. Dining in Chicago truly outweighs many other cities. And the sites, the architecture of the buildings downtown, and the ethnic background of the people in Chicago is wonderful.

Quick Tips:

ATA airlines is a wonderful airline to get a fantastic price in order to fly to Chicago. They have recently gone through many changes, one being joining the Southwest Airlines family, but they remain one of the best and least expensive airlines I have known.

Best Way To Get Around:

The best way to get around Chicago is to take the L. I am in a scooter (motorized wheelchair) and even at that the L is very amenable for travel throughout the city and to see the sites as you are going from place to place. There is nothing like it to get from place to place while sightseeing in Chicago.

Restaurant | "Mama Luna's"

I have to admit that every time I have eaten at Mama Luna's, it has been take-out. They have without a doubt the most fantastic spinach deep-dish pizza that I have ever had in my life. It is very thick and filled with lots and lots of cheese. I cannot even begin to describe how wonderful this pizza is. My son has enjoyed many other things at this restaurant and enjoyed all, but I cannot go without having the spinach pizza. You must MUST try this--it is out-of-this-world! I also cannot help telling you that the price of the food here is well within the normal prices of the everyday pizzas that you will get at other pizza places.

Attraction | "Museum of Science and Industry"

This is without a doubt one of the most fascinating museums to see in the USA. For those who love planes, there are planes hanging down from the ceiling. There is a beautiful submarine that was from WWII. There are areas where there is beautiful artifacts from India, China, and many other countries all over the world. There are swords from the mideavil times, pottery from the Indians that lived in this country. The museum is so large and filled with so much to see that you almost have to make this a two-day visit. Please don't ever miss this museum; it will be worth your while, and the price is just right.

Brookfield ZooBest of IgoUgo

Attraction

The Brookfield Zoo is spread out in such a way that riding in the scooter was very easy. It is easy to get around the zoo with strollers, wheelchairs, walking, and visiting with the animals. I love many of the animals. I am not so fond of the birds, the reptiles, and the bears, but I just love all of the cats in the zoo.

Attraction | "North Avenue Beach"

The beach on the lake side of Chicago is enjoyed by all that are from the city. It is a place where all cultures in Chicago can get together and have a great time. Many times, there are things happening like the "Taste of Chicago", where there are booths and booths of different types of foods to try. When they sponsor the air show, it is absolutely wonderful to watch the planes not only going over the land, but going out over the lake. There is swimming, boating, and jet skiing that goes on.
