Incline RailwayBest of IgoUgo

Attraction | "Lookout Mountain Incline Railway"

This exciting rail ride takes you up and down the side of Lookout Mountain, in some places at as much as a 72% angle. From the station's observation area at the top of the mountain, you can see all of Chattanooga.

Rock City GardensBest of IgoUgo

Attraction

This attraction is especially delightful for children. The gardens have been developed throughout a rocky area on the brow of the mountain. There are nursery rhyme scenes, a swing-along bridge, and a spectacular view of seven states. During the Christmas season, the gardens are brightly decorated and there are even some reindeer in residence.

Ruby FallsBest of IgoUgo

Attraction

This popular attraction, open 364 days a year (closed on Christmas Day), takes you by elevator down into the caves that are so prevalent here. You'll see where the early Indians held their ceremonies and sometimes lived. The tour ends at "Ruby Falls," the underground waterfall found deep within this mountain. After emerging from the underground wonder, the children can romp in the playground.

Tennessee AquariumBest of IgoUgo

Attraction

When this facility was built a little over 10 years ago, it was, at that time, the largest freshwater aquarium in the United States. Besides a dizzying array of fish, there are otters, snakes, lizards, and giant turtles. Recently, a new saltwater addition was opened. You can easily spend 3 hours here and still not see it all.

Attraction | "Chickamauga National Battlefield"

Start your tour with a visit to the park's visitor's center. They have a fine collection of Civil War era weapons on display as well as informative narratives describing life in the 19th century. Then, take a leisurely drive through the park, taking time to stop along the way and inspect the many monuments and informative plaques. Take a picnic to enjoy at Wilder's Tower.

Riverbend FestivalBest of IgoUgo

Attraction | "Riverbend"

For over twenty years, the city has enjoyed the music festival, Riverbend, held downtown on the banks of the Tennessee River. For ten nights, the patrons are entertained on a variety of stages, in acts ranging from the late Sarah Vaughn to Crystal Gayle and even comedian Bill Cosby. The music runs the gamut from country to rock, hip-hop, and Christian. Patrons purchase a pin prior to opening night that entitles them to enter the gates every night of the festival for one low price. Check out Riverbend every June.
