The place is an old lodge-type accommodation. The furnishings are dated but well kept. Not much thought is put into the arrangement and décor, and though there are some nice antiques, they are not displayed at their finest. This is not someplace you stay for posh luxury or fine detail. It is more like a homey cabin. What you come for is the view. It has been featured in Conde Naste as one of the best "ROOMS WITH A VIEW" in the world. We were lucky enough to get the featured room, and we were not disappointed. This was an expensive trip, but it was well worth it. The tour included a trip on the train, a bus, and a ferry through the fjords. We tried to find a way to visit Bergen, but we were unable to due to our limited time in Norway. We left Oslo on a Saturday morning and took the train to Flam. We arrived at the ferry for lunch and at the Stalheim, where we spent the night, at about 4pm, in time to enjoy the view and sunset. The next morning we got up and ate a great buffet meal, and the owner of the hotel drove us down to catch our next bus.
