Discovering Frederick, Maryland

An October 2005 trip to Frederick by FrederickStory

An introduction to all that's neat, fun, and wonderful about Frederick, Maryland, the place where I live!

From October 2005 to September 2006, “kids of all ages” can enjoy The Great Frederick Historic Treasure Hunt. This 2-hour, self-guided walking tour of 20 downtown Frederick historic sites is free and can be enjoyed by the entire family. Four-page color Historic Treasure Hunt maps are available at the Frederick Visitor Center at 19 E. Church St. Each month, a prize winner will be drawn from all correctly-answered entries submitted to date. Prize baskets worth hundreds to thousands will be given away.

The treasure hunt was written by a group of Fredericktonians called FrederickStory, A Celebration of Frederick History (www.frederickstory.com). Their mission is to share Frederick history in fun and entertaining ways. I am a member of the FrederickStory Committee. I live in Frederick but work elsewhere. I am passionate about travel - but I am also passionate about Frederick. In the 5 weeks since we introduced The Great Frederick Historic Treasure Hunt, we've been getting nothing but glowing feedback. It's free, fun, and educational. And it's good exercise (2 hours of walking, all outdoors). I am pretty sure that anyone (any age and background) will enjoy spending a few hours exploring our wonderful corner of the world!
