Cabo San Lucas in October

An October 2005 trip to Cabo San Lucas by chris1916

We visited Cabo and stayed at the Playa Grande Resort. What a top-notch resort! I highly recommend this place. This is our third year visiting, and we upgraded from a pool-side view to a marina view, which is under construction. The weather was great for fishing.

Fishing was fantastic for my son and I. We used a different boat than our usual Solmar Fleet. We didn't do as good as we would have liked to, but we did bring in some nice 35-plus dorados. Took a day trip up to Todos Santos. Loved the quaint town. The people were very friendly. Had a wonderful meal at Tequila Flats Cafe across the street from the Hotel California. Laid by the pool and just soaked up the sun. Morning walks along the beach to watch the sun rise and the fishing boats head out was unbelievable.

Quick Tips:

Go on the timeshare tour. It is only 90 minutes, and you can just say no. The discount and freebie tickets make it worth the presentation. We had three dinners compliments of the tour.

Best Way To Get Around:

Being so close to town and the marina, we walked and enjoyed the conversation as we did so. Within 10 minutes from the resort. Taxi's charge to get into town. Late in the evening, when we were tired, is when we used the taxi.
Best Things Nearby:
It is an easy 10-minute walk to the marina and town. There are lots of great restaurants and an un-crowded beach--just don't go swimming because of the undertow.

Best Things About the Resort:
Beautiful!!! There are lots of pools to choose from, spacious rooms, super service from our maid (Rosy), and a very friendly staff.

Resort Experience:

Playa Grande is, in my opinion, the best resort in Cabo. It is away from the noise of the city but close enough to walk to (10 minutes). It offers everything that one could need. The staff is very helpful and generous. Most of the construction is done, except for the new rooms up on the Ridge. We liked the view from the Ridge of the Marina and upgraded.

They offer you great discounts on activities such as fishing, ATV, tours, etc. Take the tour to Todas Santos and enjoy a great meal at Tequila Sunrise Cafe across from the famous Hotel California. Make sure you write your name on the wall like everyone else. We caught a nice 45-pound Dorado and cooked it. We brought the meat home. Make sure you bring your own ice chest down if you go fishing. It is pretty expensive to buy one there. Overall, I loved Cabo and the Playa Grande.

Best Things Nearby:
Everything was close to this resort. Beach on site. Marina and town only 10 minutes walking.

Best Things About the Resort:
Beautiful resort. Friendly staff. Wonderful rooms and view. Lots of pools.

Resort Experience:
In my opinion the best resort in Cabo. Nothing even comes close to its looks and presentation. Very tropical and romantic. The rooms are super. The only thing I wished the room had was an oven to cook in. Everything else was just the top.

We loved the atmosphere. Being able to sit and watch the boats in the marina made this a fun spot for our family. Service was not the fastest, but we were ok with that. We were in no hurry. Shrimp was the best...I was stuffed!

Week 41 is during the yearly festival in the town of Todos Santos. I can't remember the name of the festival, but it deals with the local Catholic Church. Very carnival atmosphere with rides and booths. Lots of cafes to enjoy a nice lunch at. Art galleries everywhere. The drive is enjoyable and lots to see.

This is the marlin capitol of the world and they mean it. I have caught and released a 250 pounder striped marlin. The pictures that were taken will bring back memories for years and the marlin was released to enjoy another day.

More bars and dance joints than you will ever see. El Squid Roe was probably our favorite. Very noisy, but hey, that is one reason you go... Cabo Wabo and Gigglin Marlin were fun spots also.

Nightlife
Cabo San Lucas, Mexico Cabo San Lucas, Mexico

The Playa Grande has everything you need to relax and unwind. The moment you step into the large lobby to check in, your eyes are going everywhere. It is beyond beautiful. The desk staff was very helpful and friendly at all hours. Easy changeover on currency right there. Their is a sports bar off to the right if you want to watch games and have a drink. A great spa and weight room. Miniature golf was fun with the family. I believe there were 6 pools and a hot tub. Get to a lounge chair fairly early, they get gobbled up fast. Breakfast was $12, but all you can eat and drink. It was a good way to start the day. The rooms were superb! Lots of room for everyone. Rooms were decorated very nice and comfortable. This is a fabulous resort and I can't even think of staying anywhere else now that I have spent the past few years there.
