It's said that this area is where people from Colorado go to see real mountains.

Chateau Lake Louise
We were lucky enough to get one of only five rooms with a balcony. Although the Deluxe Lakeside room is rather small, the view cannot be beat, with the deep turquoise waters of Lake Louise surrounded by mountains.

Restaurant

The atmosphere is like a fine old library or wine cellar, with dark panelled wood and low lighting. Frankly, I was disappointed in the meal - the portions were very small and not that tasty. Fondue for dessert was fun, with fresh fruits available for dipping in chocolate.

Attraction

Banff Gondola
The price for the Banff Gondola is pretty steep ($20). The gondolas themselves seat four people and take 8 minutes to reach the summit, which is about 10,000 feet above sea level. From the top, there is a 360-degree view of the area, including the Fairmont Banff Springs and the city of Banff. Although there are signs at the top warning against feeding the mountain goats, we didn't see any! Only make the trip if the day is sunny; otherwise, you won't be able to see a thing.

Story/Tip

Lake Louise at Dusk

Don't miss the stroll around Lake Louise, Emerald Lake, Moraine Lake, and Peyto Lake. See Banff National Park, The Icefields Parkway, and Yoho National Park. There are lots of animal sightings in the area. We saw deer, elk, and smaller critters, but there are also bears, moose, and mountain goats to be found.
