It has so much acceptance by previous journal about the different restaurants in this city that I have compile a new group for your consideration.

Some of these restaurants are typical american, others are of different ethnic groups, but I have selected all for their popularity among the locals, turists or business people. I hope you will enjoy them as much as I did.

Quick Tips:

Restaurants in the Coral Gables area fill very easily so I recommend you call for reservations. Some will not take reservations and these are the ones we went to early or late in the evening to avoid long waits.

Best Way To Get Around:

Almost all the Coral Gables restaurants are within walking distance from the mayor hotels in the area. It is safe and at the same time interesting to walk at night in the city. If walking is not your cup of tea, taxis are readily available or just a phone call away.

We come to this restaurant when we want to be in a nice atmosphere and at the same time be spoiled by very corteous and prompt service. This restaurant offers Mediterranean dishes like paella (our regular order), slow roasted duck, Mediterranean style yellow tail. At the same time the food has an oriental component when they add the wok-cooked vegetables, the Thai chicken and the ginger salmon to their menu. Spanish, Chilean and French wines on the wine list are offered in all different categories and prices.

We have been in this restaurant only once but the food was not much to our liking and the service was slow. If you like German food try this, the only restaurant of its type in the Gables. When we were here we had a thick vegetable German soup with barley followed by schnitzles and sausages with cabbage. They also offer hearty beef and pork plates. For dessert try as we did the blackforest cake which is the part of the meal that we enjoyed the most.

La Palma D'or

Restaurant

La Palma D'or

This very elegant restaurant is on the top of most of the restaurants in the Gables, as is its food. Delicious nouvelle cousine, prepared to perfection. We come here for very special occasions. On the menu you find, Seafood: Roasted Langoustines. Meats: Filet mignon with Champingon Sauce. Poultry: Roasted Duck. A big selection of desserts if you still have room for them. Their wine list is extensive and expensive.

Amalfi

Restaurant

Amalfi

We enjoy this restaurant for its variety of different italian foods with a Latin flavor. Their grilled veal chop with the creamy sauce is one of my favorites. Also the penne with chicken liver is usually cooked to perfection. For desserts I always go for the caramelized crepes. This is a very friendly restaurant located in an attractive setting.

Bossa Nova/Steak Masters

This typical Brazilian rodizio restaurant, presents a variety of meats which are continuosly served at your table and sliced on your plate. Since I am a meatlover this is the place for me and for those who do not have an end to their eating, since you can have as much as food as you wish. The meats are cooked on the grill with a simple seasoning leaving that true meat flavor to be enjoyed. For side dishes they have rice, beans and a variety of salads, which I always try not to eat as to really take pleasure in the different cuts of meat.

Chiyo

Chiyo

This is actually a Japanese restaurant which I often visit when I am in the Coconut Grove area, and feel the need for oriental food. Beef Sukiyaki is my preferred choice, which they prepare as excellently as the Shrimp Teriyaki. Try the salad. I most enjoy the best: Mayfair Salad: fresh vegetables, ginger dressing and seafood. Sushi, sahimi and all the usual Japanese style food are served as well.

Donna's Bistro

Restaurant

Donna's Bistro

Not particularly elegant and with little atmosphere but you will forget all of that when you try the food at this Jamaican restaurant. We always start with the yellow Gazpacho with crab meat or the spinach salad with bacon dressing. Main dishes go from the Delmonico with gorgonzola cheese and my favorite snapper caribean with mango. Desserts are delicious...in particular their coconut sherbert.

The Fishbone Grille

Restaurant

The Fishbone Grille

This is one of the more popular fresh fish restaurants we have found in the Gables. Prices are reasonable and we are delighted with their prompt service. They prepare all different kinds of fish which they find fresh in the market that morning, sauteed, blackened, muniere or broiled. They also have shellfish, oysters and pasta dishes with fish. Their tuna is always great. They have special bread which we enjoy when we go there: the jalapeno cornbread.

Service at this place is impeccable. Their steaks are known in the area to be prime and juicy. And one of the nice things about Christy's is the consistent aim for perfection. Basically this is just a steak restaurant where they prepare any kind of cut to your specifications, and they do it well. I tried their caesar salad which is fresh and crispy. For side dishes, the usual, potatoes, vegetables or rice. Rib roast is well prepared. Dessert includes all kinds of pies, in particular their key lime pie is out of this world.
