A September 2005 trip to Canyon Lake by RichardHutchinson

What a great place to visit! Halfway between Austin and San Antonio, we were busy every day.

Austin, San Antonio, Fredericksburg, Gruene, and tubing

Best Things About the Resort:

There was an ultra-friendly staff, great pools and hot tub, and a miniature golf course and tennis.

Resort Experience:

It is a big resort, so the ability to walk around can make it more enjoyable. You can drive, though. It's a family place, and many owners are on-site. Everyone is friendly, not only the staff. It is centrally located to Austin and San Antonio, so it's a great base from which to explore the area.

We were in the two-bedroom unit, not a townhouse. The unit was extremely comfortable. The king-size bed in the master bedroom was heavenly, as was the whirlpool tub. We were in Building 46, unit no. 223, and had a great view of the lake. The resort was quiet, although it was busy. The unit is very well equipped.

Miniature golf was fun and the pools and hot tub were fabulous. It is a big resort and requires walking, many times up and down staircases. For us that was a plus, as it gave us a fitness walk every day.

You must go. It was great, and we enjoyed the historic dance hall, complete with live music and dancing. The Gruene Grill came recommended but was closed for a private party. The little stores are great. It's a two-road town.

This is free and FUN. The 10th-floor oval office and Lady Bird information is fabulous. The family photos and historical data is so interesting. We spent a lot of time there.
