I went to Dublin with friends to enjoy the culture, the history and the beer. We took day trips to Blarney and Powers Court and spent our nights at the Bleeding Horse, the best place in the world to have a pint.

Of our group of 4, three of us stayed at the Shaw Apartments in a one-bedroom. The only boy stayed at the Harcourt Hotel. Both were just of the beaten path but an easy walk to a bus stop. Both were clean, reasonably priced, and had good service. Small, like most moderately price hotels in Europe, but offering everything you need. The apartments were a few blocks from the hotel, but I recommend them. The one-bedrooms have a room with two twins, a living room with a futon, small table and TV, a kitchen and bathroom. If you stay there, walk about two blocks to the Bleeding Horse. It's an awful name but a great pub. We met lots of locals, as well as tourists and students from Australia, South Africa, etc.

Activity

I'm sorry if I sound rude, but this was boring and not worth the money. It's a book under glass and it's not in a language I know. I understand the historical significance but I still say if you're working with limited time and money, you can skip this one. Do check out the college campus though. It's very pretty and the students are friendly.

It's pretty and historical. It's a nice, relaxing way to spend part of an afternoon. I wish I had more to say about it but it's been over a year and my memory is fading. I do know I liked it if that counts for anything. Also see St. Patrick's Cathedral if you can. In fact, do the hop on/hop off bus thing and see them both. Say you're a student everywhere you go and save a few dollars. We're all students of life after all!

When you are in Dublin, you must go to the Guinness Storehouse. It's not as exciting as it may have been years ago, since the brewery is no longer part of the attraction, but walk though it. Once you get to the top, you get a free pint and a great view of Dublin. Take the hop-on/hop-off bus.

Blarney Castle

Activity

We took a bus from Dublin because we're cheap. It was a long, long, long ride. Get there some other way, but go. The castle and the grounds are amazing, although the climb to the top of the castle is a little scary, seeing as how the stairs barely qualify as stairs. If you can, check out the surrounding town while you're there. Have a light lunch and check out the shops. The people are just as friendly as they are in Dublin. If you get to Blarney via Cork, spend some time there as well. We had a great dinner at a place recommended by a lady in a shop and walked around Cork for a while.
