I''ve been to a number of hotels in Punta Cana, but I think the best one is the Barcelo Bávaro Beach. Completely secluded on Playa Bávaro...you have two kilometers of white sand and transparent water that belongs to the hotel. It''s tranquil, nevertheless if you want some action, you just have to go to the hotel''s pool area.

This hotel complex has 20 restaurants to choose from. You have everything from Dominican to French cuisine. It's great because you can go from one hotel to the other and try the different restaurants they have.

You must go on a Sunday night. You can go there to have dinner while watching a local "Perico Ripiao" band. They play typical Dominican music, and the locals dance. The food is very simple...yuca or tostones (fried pantains) and meat. It's great because you can enjoy a lovely meal with the locals from the area.

Attraction

This island is absolutely beautiful. Full of palm trees, you will find a small fishing village. You have locals there that will make a cocoloco or a piña colada naturally...with fresh coconuts and fresh pineapples. There are people who sell local food (rice and beans) and you also have dancing right on the beach. It's primarily for snorkeling or sunbathing. It's a lot of fun and the scenery is wonderful.

Story/Tip

This is a place that very few people know of. You must go on a 4x4 jeep, otherwise you will get stuck in the middle of this jungle. From Punta Cana you go north, to Nisibón and you ask for Fidel's Rancho. It's in the middle of a virgin beach (that I'm sure will be full of hotels in 10 or 15 years ). You must go early. You go horseback riding there, then you have Dominican food prepared by the locals there. You listen to and dance to Bachata and Merengue, or you can simply relax by laying on one of the hammocks. The view is absolutely beautiful. It's heaven!!
