Labor Day Getaway

A September 2005 trip to Manitou Springs by AshleyWestin

A small town that is part of a larger city is the only way to describe Manitou Springs. It has a rich college-town feel and is quite the party town on Labor Day weekend.

Overall, this was a very interesting place to eat--it had a good selection of food from America and various parts of the British Isles. The atmosphere was just like a bar that served food, and if that is something you don't like, Marilyn's Pizza House next door serves from its own menu, as well as that of the Ancient Mariner.

I ate breakfast here (they only serve breakfast and lunch!), and it was extremely good. The amount of food they give you is tremendous, and their coffee is great too. In fact, you can add flavor to your iced latte, cappuccino, espresso, or just plain old coffee for only $.50!

Any fan of Marilyn Monroe would be proud to see Marilyn's Pizza House! The purple walls are decorated with picture of Marilyn Monroe--I think I even saw a photograph of her as a child! They even sold chocolate malts! The music was varied and interesting--not at all unpleasant--and their food was great. This is a place I would recommend to everyone.

The food was amazing, the atmosphere romantic and elegant, and all of this without being overly fancy or expensive! When it said that the resteraunt had fine wines, I had no idea the they had a wine list--in a 1" binder. The binder wasn't full, but the selection was quite extensive. This is a romantic destination perfect for a family outing or even a wedding reception.

A small shop just off the main street with plenty of Pike's Peak gifts and shirts. In the back is a workshop in which kids of all ages can create a little stuffed friend.

The show was awesome! They combined music and lights to make a show, much like a concert, just without the band. The only downside was the cold. Metal seats, like at high-school football games, didn't help.
