A Mountain Vacation with all the Amenities of Home

A June 2003 trip to Pigeon Forge by joy0302

The Smoky Mountains and Pigeon Forge are a great place to go with a large group, as there is something for everyone to enjoy. The views of the mountains are spectacular, and there are great times to be had.

The Smoky Mountain area has many hotels and privately owned condos. We stayed in a condo and really enjoyed it. It was very clean and close to everything. A quick search on the Internet will garner you numerous choices of lodging in Pigeon Forge. After you do little homework on locations, you will be all set to pick the best lodging for you and your family.

Restaurant | "Black Bear Jambore"

The Black Bear Jambore is a great dinner show. They have a multiple course meal that is brought out to your table. The meal consists of chicken, ribs, corn, and everything else you would expect from good country cooking. There was so much food you will not go away hungry. The show was very entertaining, as the performers did many different skits. All in all, it was well worth the money and was the best meal I ate while in Pigeon Forge.

Attraction

Dollywood is an enjoyable day, more so if you are a fan of Dolly herself. There are many of Dolly's costumes and personal treasures on view. She also visits several times a year, but was not there when we visited.

Food is also plentiful here at Dollywood, with anything from buffets to ice cream. It can be expensive, though, so you may want to eat a good meal once instead of indulging in pricey junk food.

There are many souvenir shops with Dolly merchandise. Also at Dollywood, you will find many unique gifts, such as hand-blown glass works of art, woodcrafts, and homemade candy.

The price, however, our family felt was a little high. The $43 is getting close to Disney prices, and I don't think they are ready to compete with Disney yet.

Pigeon Forge is a great vacation spot when traveling with family. There are shops and shows for the adults. For the children, Dollywood, multiple rides on the main street, and the race tracks all over town will make sure the children leave happy and the parents leave broke. Do not go if you are on a diet though, because the phrase "country cooking" must have been initiated here, as they do have the best Southern food. Pigeon Forge is a fun town and best experienced with a group.
