This was a combined business and pleasure trip. For business, we stayed in the city. For pleasure, I toured the city and went into the countryside to tour castles, shops, farms, and smaller villages. Great photographic event.

Excellent accommodations, full-service hotel right on the river. Bar and meeting rooms were unbeatable, restaurant and room accommodations were superior, and reflect the history of the city and the people.

The Jazz Boat

Activity

The river is superb, hosting the city vies, castles, federal buildings, and old cultural beauty of the city. One of the few cities boasting old-world culture not destroyed by wars and bombing in WWII. Old Town is remarkable!

Prague Castle

Activity

This was a walking tour that could take you two to three days if done leisurely. Bring your camera and enjoy the culture! Franz Kafka's home, art colonies from the 1500's, shops along the way, pubs and taverns, and feudal Czech old-world living.

This tour spans the riverfront and depicts homes, artwork, history, culture, religious gathering places, and the history of the people in the city. Shops and tearooms also adorn the tour area, with plenty of local dining fare.

This cathedral will take your breath away. There is no way to capture the beauty and overwhelming amount of history and artwork that are present in this one cathedral. Each time you visit, you find something you missed the first time. And the entire city is all about the cathedrals, so visiting this one is just the beginning.

The artists in Praha are talented and very reasonably priced. The thing to check for is what is hand painted vs. what is screened or airbrushed copy work. MANY MEDIUMS AND VERY REASONABLY PRICED.

Bohemian Cristal

Activity

You can find it everywhere you shop in Praha. Many people travel to Praha just to purchase crystal chandeliers and glassware products. Their pricing is fractional to what is found elsewhere in the world.

I was amazed at the variety of local artists and artisans showing their wares in the Old Town market area. Days can be spent here without tiring of the fantastic quality, pricing, and variety. Special things to watch for are Old Town beer steins, furriers, painted babushkas, ornaments, dolls, ironware, lace, garnets, and lead crystal or hand-blown crystal. Waterways are superb, and everything is quite reasonable.

Out of the city, we went to two Bohemian castles - probably any of them would give you a view of the history of the feudal period of Bohemia and Czech days. It is easy to see where the term Bohemian originates from once you have taken a tour. Many family murders, incest, family wars, fighting over land and food supplies for power in pre-Christian days.

Spectacular countryside, take your camera!

This clock took more than 10 years to make. The artisan who designed and built it was a genius. It shows the movement of the sun, the stars, and the constellations as the clock turns every day. Amazing work of art right in the center of Old Town.

The townspeople then decided they would blind the artisan when the project was completed in order that he could not produce the same wonder anywhere else in the world. In the spirit of true Bohemia!

It is an amazing view of history and the closeness of the Jewish community here in Praha. Narrow gravestone markers, a temple, and historic exhibit depicting the early years, migration patterns pre-WWII, and artifacts. Worth the time to learn more about the true nature of this city.
