Trip Down South to Samal Island

An August 2005 trip to Davao by kayumanggi

What made my stay at Samal Island simply amazing were the constant interactions I had with the staff at Pearl Farm Resort. Of course, the spectacular environment was nothing short of breathtaking, making my family's trip "down south" to Davao well worth the travel.

Best Things Nearby:
THE OCEAN and nothing else!

Best Things About the Resort:
(1) Mindanao Pavillion Restaurant - overlooking the infinity pool, the ocean, and the bamboo-made lighthouse/bar area/boat reception
(2) Aqua Sports Center (Wind & Wave Davao), with its hospitable and accommodating staff

Resort Experience:
Whether you're looking for a romantic getaway, a spot for a family outing, or 4 days of aqua sports adventures, this is the place for you and your travel companions.

The resort has two private beaches, one right beside the bar and Mindanao Pavillion (restaurant), where you can enjoy a day of sunbathing or snorkeling (P300 for the entire day) in the aquamarine water (warm, with very little to no waves, much like the neighboring infinity pool). You can also take a stroll through the 11-hectare property, passing the tennis courts, aviary, and Ylang-Ylang Spa.

Pearl Farm is also perfect place for a family gathering, although the volume of people never got overwhelming or distracting, because the resort's expanse is big enough to make you feel like you're the only guest being catered to. It certainly felt this way when I sat on my porch/balcony area in one of the Samal Houses perched atop the ocean - the perfect place to enjoy the sunrise and sunset over wine and good conversation with family.

The highlight of my Pearl Farm visit was definitely my time with the Aqua Sports Center staff. They catered to my every need - a guided kayak trip to neighboring islands and a 3-day certification course for open water scuba diving. Pearl Farm called over Oliver Ramos of Wind and Wave Davao (http://www.windandwavedavao.com), and an hour after my arrival, I was on my way to getting scuba certified! The guys at the Aqua Sports center really made the trip for me - total Visayan charm and hospitality right in the middle of Mindanao.

If you're looking for a "chillaxed" atmosphere with quality service and accommodation, you'll find it at Pearl Farm.
