Overview

This was a nice, quick overnight trip to attend a wedding in South Lake Tahoe. I have not been to the South Lake Tahoe in the summer, only the winter, so I was not sure what to expect. I was pleasantly surprised that there was a lot of activity around the Stateline casinos and that there seemed to be many restaurants and shopping areas, something for everyone, I guess.

Quick Tips:

If you are flying into Reno, note that South Lake Tahoe is about an hour away. It takes longer if you go during the day, as there are lots of people on the one road around the lake.

Best Way To Get Around:

If you don't drive your own car, a rental is definitely the best way to get around.

The room we stayed in was clean, and well appointed. I really couldn't have asked for more. The location was quiet but near many restaurants and shops. We wanted to stay at a place that was close to the airport but not right at the airport--ESA was perfect in that regard. The staff went out of their way to give us suggestions about restaurants and advice for our drive to South Lake Tahoe. They even allowed us to check in early.

Story/Tip

The wedding we attended was held at the Lakeshore Lodge and Spa. The ceremony, which was arranged by the Lodge, was set up overlooking the lake in a private lawn area. It was a very pretty outdoor setting. A small reception was held in the common area outside the wedding couple's room. This was really quite awkward with all of the other vacationing families walking around, barbequing, and playing games. I would have like something a little more intimate and perhaps could have done without the sand and picnic tables, but admit that it was nice. The rooms, from what I saw, were okay, and they were about 50 yards from the water's edge. Ultimately, though, they are in definite need of a renovation, pronto! I think that this Lodge would be perfect for families, especially family reunions.
