Anniversary Celebration in Vegas

An August 2005 trip to Las Vegas by BBunny2548

Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino

Hotel | "Mandalay Bay"

We always stay at Mandalay, and we have never been disappointed. The facilities are always in great shape, and the staff is very friendly. You never really have to leave the property, as there is such a wide variety of things to do and see there. We spent a lot of time at the wave pool and lazy river area. Although a bit pricy, being able to reserve two lounge chairs with waitress service for the whole day was worth every penny. The spa is first-rate, and a day there washes away almost all the stress my job can dish out. When we arrived, it was in the midst of check-out, and our desk clerk had been hassled by some nasty guests. We tried to be extra friendly to cheer her up, and when we mentio...Read More

This was the most pleasant surprise on our trip. We were staying at Mandalay Bay, spending the day at the beach and pool. Since we were dressed in shorts, nice cover-ups, and sandals, we wanted to eat someplace casual. Although we were a bit too casual, it still was not out of place at the Burger Bar. All I can say is that the burgers there were the best we ever tasted, and we will go there whenever we visit Vegas. I never had a bacon cheeseburger taste like fine dining before! We had very competent service.

This was a very expensive disappointment. The appetizers, wait staff, and wine were first-rate, but the fish entrées were good but nothing exceptional and somewhat undercooked. It was the ambience that really was odd. The table for two was miniscule and so close to the other diners that you could hear all of their conversations. They gladly moved us to a booth. They had linen napkins, but paper placemats. The worst was the background music. It was a cross between smooth jazz and disco, with a pounding beat that never changed from song to song. After an hour, we couldn’t wait to get away from it, so we went elsewhere for dessert.

Silverton Hotel & Casino

Attraction | "Bass Pro Shops/Silverton Lodge"

Quote:
The Bass Pro Shop takes up the entire first floor of the Silverton Lodge. It is a redneck's Nordstrom, with every conceivable outdoor sport and activity item available: camping, fishing, shooting, hunting, archery, hiking, etc., etc. What makes it special is its decor. It is designed lodge-style and has taxidermy animals in natural poses throughout, aquariums, a fine-gun gallery, clothes galore, and more. My husband's eyes were as big as a kid at Disneyland. The casino, hotel, and restaurants are on the same property. The next time we visit Vegas, he may drop more money at the Bass Pro Shop than at the casinos!
