Quick Tips:

Make it a 2- or 3-day trip to be able to enjoy the many different sightseeing opportunities in the immediate area.

Best Way To Get Around:

Oak Creek Canyon drive is best seen without an RV, as the narrow, winding roads can be a challenge for a larger vehicle.

Walnut Canyon's parking lot is also a really tight spot for anything over 20 feet.

We had a wonderful meal, the food was well prepared, a special order was accepted with no arguments, and the wait staff was prompt and helpful. It was a very pleasant experience worth repeating.

This is a nice, little place directly across the parking lot from McDonald’s. It is very unprepossessing on the outside and simply decorated on the inside. The food was well prepared and quickly served, and they offered a good variety of healthy, tasty choices, like turkey bacon and vegetarian dishes with an emphasis on Mexican cuisine. Breakfast dishes are available anytime.

Tuzigoot
The museum is small, but has interesting exhibits and information on the Sinagua Indian Culture, which inhabited the area about 900 years ago. The Indian Ruins take about 30 minutes to tour and are great for those interested in mysteries of the past. The walk isn't difficult, but is too steep for wheelchair access.

Walnut Canyon is an Indian ruin from the Sinagua Indian Culture about 1,000 years ago. The ruins are built into the cliff sides. You walk down about 200 stairs to tour around the developed site and can see evidence in the surrounding cliff sides of many additional dwellings. It is a fascinating walk and a real treat for those who enjoy glimpses into the past. It is a strenuous walk back up the 200 stairs, but well worth the walk. There is also a rim trail to walk with evidence of other dwellings in the area and descriptions of various plant and animal life.

You have to wonder how the people climbed up and down the sheer drop hillsides on a daily basis.

Attraction

This is an incredibly beautiful drive from Flagstaff, AZ, to Sedona, AZ, via Oak Creek Canyon on 89A. The speed limits are low; the roads narrow, winding, and exhilarating; and the mountain and rock views breathtaking. It is a must-see for anyone, even those, like me, who really don't care for winding mountain roads.
