You definitely have to walk along the center city. If you are a museum goer, there are plenty of museums in the city. The most famous is of course Philadelphia Museum of Art which has a great collection of impressionists. It also just housed an incredible exhibition of Van Gogh's paintings titled "Face to Face". Also the museum has modern art, European art of the Middle Ages and Asian art. That collection is really very interesting: it features art objects from China, Japan and India. Another museum to visit is Rodin museum. Restored just last summer it has a huge collection of Rodin's sculptures and is a must see. Also there is Franklin Science museum which features different exhibitions year...Read More

Even though not exactly in Philadelphia, but actually very close, I couldn't fail to mention this museum especially because it was the place of the recent Faberge exhibit. The building has a modern architecture and there is really not much to talk about, but the Faberge exhibit was awesome. The Faberge exhibit was the largest exhibit of Faberge's works I've ever seen. It brought together his jewelry, eggs, pictures frames, icons backgrounds, cigarette cases, clocks and watches, statuettes of animals, silver tea sets and basically everything that we always knew and never thought of when saying the name Faberge. It also showed some works by Lalique and Tiffany's. This was a place that every woman w...Read More

Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts Best of IgoUgo

Attraction | "Academy of Music and Kimmel Center"

Quote:
Currently the Academy of Music located at Broad and Locust Streets is the home of the Philadelphia Orchestra with Wolfgang Sawallisch as music director, but come December the Orchestra will move into its new home in the new century – the Kimmel Center, currently being built a couple of blocks away from the Academy of Music. These 2 buildings couldn’t be any different. The building of the Academy of Music has an air of the last century to it with paintings on the ceiling, large candelabra, velvet chairs and flower patterns on the walls and stairs. The Kimmel center will be a very modern looking building made of concrete and glass. The ceiling will have a hemispherical shape. The walls will have ad...Read More

This is a small gallery in Moore College of Art and Design which encourages young women to pursue their dream career of becoming a painter or a fashion designer. The museum is free and is open Tue-Fri 10-5, Sun 12-4. Phone: 215-568-4515. The building of Moore College is very modern, it has interesting modern furniture and lighting, and it has a lot of windows and light. This month they have an exposition of Mary Cassatt, Alice Neel, and Karen Kilimnik. This is a very intersting exposition, about 45 paintings, 11 of which are Mary Cassatt. They are small paintings, about 20" x 22", but you can see them in all the catalogs. This exposition brings an interesting perspective to the evolution ...Read More
