Family Trip to Texas

An August 2005 trip to Canyon Lake by emhass

Quote: We had a great time on our week-long trip to Canyon Lake. We visited nearby San Antonio to see the River Walk and the Alamo. We also had a great time visiting SeaWorld and the famous water park Schlitterbahn.

Best Things Nearby:Canyon Lake, Schlitterbahn, and San AntonioBest Things About the Resort:Away from the city and quietResort Experience:When we arrived at Canyon Lake after a long day of traveling, it was raining. The rain wasn't bad, but all the wooden stairs were very slippery, so it wasn't easy to carry our luggage down the 50 slippery stairs to get to our room. The room itself wasn't bad. It was very clean, and the staff had folded the towels and washcloths into some nice little flowers. The master bathroom had a big Jacuzzi tub. Unfortunately, we were too busy to really get a chance to use it. The bathroom was missing a towel bar and plug in the sink...Read More

We decided that we had to have some barbeque since we were in Texas, and this is the place we found in Canyon Lake. It was delicious. I would recommend the ribs and brisket, but the ham and turkey were really good, too. The barbeque sauce is on the spicy side, but wonderful. They told us that it would be available on the Internet in a few months.

We saw Schlitterbahn on the Travel Channel as the best water park in the US, and my husband had wanted to come here since. We had such a great time. There were things for people of all ages to do. We took our kids, ages 8, 4, and 7 weeks. The older ones were able to do anything we felt like they were able to do, and there were a lot of shaded areas with picnic tables for us to sit at with the little one. I would recommend buying your tickets on the Internet before you go. We did and were able to add on an unlimited soft drink with our ticket that you could not buy at the park. So, for $5, we got free refills all day, which is nice when it is so hot. One other nice thing they offer is ...Read More

We had such a great time the day we visited Sea World, we definitely could have spent a second day there, but we just ran out of time. There is so much to do there: the animals, the water park, and the rides. We watched the Shamu show and the dolphin show, and I was very happy to see that the seating area in both of these arenas was covered. The kids had a lot of fun in the water-park area, and they would have been happy to spend the whole day there. After the water park, we hit the rides, and it was great to wait until the last part of the day, because there were no lines. Unfortunately, the Steel Eel was closed that day, but I walked right on the Great White without having to wait at all, and t...Read More
