The Cultural Alternate to San Juan

  • 7 reviews
Ponce, the senior city of Puerto Rico is an autonomous city. They closely hold their Spanish Heritage. Some of the best things in Ponce, are the Museo de Arte de Ponce, Castillo Serralles, and La Guancha

Quick Tips:

Bring a phrase book. This is not a city like San Juan, and you will not be approached in English.

Best Way To Get Around:

Parking in the town plaza area (El Pueblo) is terrible. If you can park a car there, you can park anywhere. The streets are small. There is a bus and a trolley. The trolley visits tourist sites throughout Ponce.

El AnclaBest of IgoUgo

Restaurant

Excellent Puerto Rican Seafood Restaurant! Shrimp with Garlic sauce is a MUST! The Coconut Flan is outrageous! Get a map before you venture out-- the restaurant is on a dead end, where the beach starts.

La Guanch is a place that all towns and cities should have. Here you have about 1/2 mile of boardwalk, where the young and old just hang out, eat, dance, and drink.

This is a must-see, must-enjoy, must-experience!

La Guancha Paseo Tablado
Playa de Ponce Ponce, Puerto Rico

The museum houses an excellent pre-Raphaelite collection. But a must-see is Lord Leighton's "Flaming June". The firey orange painting is larger than life! The museum is bright and airy, and take a tour, if you can! The tour guides are spectacular; so is the gift shop!

Serallés CastleBest of IgoUgo

Attraction | "Serrallés Castle"

This beautiful castle was home to the Serralles faily, makers of Don Q rum. The tour guides are fun and informative. Tours are offered in English and Spanish. The movie in the beginning is a bit unexciting, but the grounds are gorgeous. You can walk around and admire the beautiful landscaping, flowers, and view of the city of Ponce, from on top of the Hill! Make sure you have a Pina Colada in the museum's snack shop!

La Cruz del VigíaBest of IgoUgo

Attraction

This cross, overlooking the city of Ponce, is a lookout spot. You don't really need to go to the observation tower, just walk about 20 feet to the Castillo Serralles and roam the property - you get the same effect!
