Best Things Nearby:There are six small plazas nearby where you can get all your food and pharmacy needs for the week, as well as some small places to eat or rent movies. If you wanted, you really wouldn't have to go anywhere else but these plazas in the resort’s shuttle, but within a 10-minute drive, there is the Sawgrass Mills mall, with more shops and restaurants than you need for a week's vacation. If you drive or rent a car, there are numerous malls within a half-hour drive as well.Best Things About the Resort:The resort is very quiet, with six pools and many activities, and only a few have a small cost. The resort is new, and the rooms were very large and had beautiful ...Read More

There is always a wait, but the meal is worth it. It is hard to save room for dessert, but try your best. This was our first time at Cheesecake, and we will return--no doubt. There is a very large seating area in the bar and "outdoor" covered seating area, as well as a large dining room. The seats are all very close to each other, but the music will help create a sense of privacy for your conversation. Everything is on the menu, from nachos to steak.

This old-style train diner is a cheap way to fill up before or after you visit the beach. Only two blocks away from the beach, the diner seemed to be a local and tourist favorite. There are many daily healthy specials, as well as regular diner fare. There is a lot of indoor and outdoor seating for a diner, and service is very quick.

Max's Cafe

Restaurant | "Max's"

Max's Cafe Photo, Weston, Florida
Quote:
There are many Max's in the area of Weston. We visited the one at the mall, and the 3-for-1 wine and drinks were a big hit. The food was average but worth the low cost for a full sit-down meal. The restaurant has too many TVs, which makes it more like a pub than restaurant, but definitely a bang-for-your-buck kind of place. The desserts were wonderful, and the restaurant has nice decor, but it's a little loud in the atmosphere department, probably too plain and boring for families.

Miami Beach

Story/Tip

The beach Photo, Miami Beach, Florida
Quote:
Miami Beach is something to be seen once I think. If you are taking your family, please be careful, as some of the areas are topless. The beach is very sandy and very large, and the water is fairly clear. The lifeguard flags will give you an idea of water conditions. There is street parking and city parking for about $10 a day.

Sawgrass Mills Mall

Attraction | "Sawgrass Mills Outlet"

Quote:
Sawgrass Mills is a day full of shopping, and with over 30 restaurants, you won't get hungry either. There is a new branch opening in 2006 as well. There is a lot of parking, daily shuttles from Weston, and taxis. The prices were average. We didn't find any great deals, but it was a fun day out.

Harry S. Truman Little White House Museum

Attraction | "Little White House"

Harry S. Truman Little White House Museum Photo, Key West, Florida
Quote:
Turman visited this home 11 times for his working holidays while president. The home has been lovingly restored, and the $11 tour is worth every cent to relive some amazing moments of history. You can't take any photos indoors, as this is a historical site, but photos are allowed outside. The Truman Annex, where the home is located, is a beautiful place to walk around as well. There is no parking in the area allowed, but city meter parking (make sure you pay, as we got a $25 ticket since we were 15 minutes late returning to the car!) is available 2 blocks away. It is a wonderful tour with wonderful stories with no political motivation or bias.

Ernest Hemingway Home and Museum

Attraction | "Hemingway's House"

Ernest Hemingway Home and Museum Photo, Key West, Florida
Quote:
The Hemingway House is the largest property in Key West. With 40 cats, all named after famous people, that you can feed, there is hands-on action as well. The tour goes through his early days, his many wives, his life, and the life of his family. You come to understand why some of Hemingway's characters were written the way they were and more. It is well worth 1 hour of your time. There is no A/C in this attraction, so try to go on a day when the heat is below 100°F!!

Margaritaville

Attraction | "Jimmy Buffet's Margaritaville"

Margaritaville Photo, Weston, Florida
Quote:
Margaritaville at its best, we had the best service at this restaurant/pub. There is a large bar and two-floor eating area. Around 10pm, a band plays you into the night. There are many menu and drink options. There is a Jimmy Buffet store next door that displays plates from all around the world paying homage to Jimmy B! The restaurant is very open, so even on a warm night you can be comfortable.

Fort Zachary Taylor Historic State Park

Attraction | "Fort Zachary"

Quote:
Fort Zachary was the only clean beach in Key West while we were there, as the Federal Government had cleaned it, the state still has not cleaned the local beaches. Fort Zachary cost $6 per car for entry but the beach is very nice and clean and the water is clear. There are a lot of shells so wearing sand shoes is a good idea. This is a nice quiet day out for the family, and there are lots of hiking spots here as well.

One corner of Key West holds the honor of being the southernmost point in the U.S.! Here, there is the southernmost point in the U.S., the southernmost hotel, the southernmost everything. Just a sight to be seen! All the attractions are free to look at and take photos of, so if you are in Key West, it is worth the trip to the Southern corner of the U.S.!

Marlins' Game

Story/Tip

Quote:
We had a good night at the Marlins baseball game. For only $32 each, we were able to get seats in the 19th row. There were many food choices inside the park. Parking was only $10. We paid $1 in tolls to get from the resort to stadium by our rental car. There were a lot of family activities going on at the park before and during the game. It is a great outdoor stadium worth a night out for a good team.

We took the 4-hour drive from Weston to Key West. We stopped at the Florida City Outlet on the way, but it was a waste of time, as half the mall is closed. The drive down was slow but beautiful. All the bridges and water are clean and in good shape. There are lots of police on the way, so don't speed. Once in Key West, we were surprised at the amount of damage from the hurricanes in the early summer still at the end of the summer. The downtown was still busy at night. There are a lot of sights to see in Key West, and there are coupons in all the travel info spots on the way. You can rent a scooter to get around town. Parking costs everywhere. There are many nice local places to eat. Duval Stree...Read More
