A Grand Time

An August 2005 trip to Mackinac Island by thewanderingpoet518

As a kid, I used to walk the road in front of the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island and think, "Someday I'll stay there." Thirty years later, my son and daughter have enjoyed the visits to the hotel as much as my wife and I.

Cool Pool
Even with the addition of a stainless steel hot tub, the pool still has a Hollywood charm and feel to it. A wooden deck stretches along the west side and is shaded by large trees. The pool sits below a bluff where guests sun themselves on the lawn or play croquet or bocci. It's easy to while away a couple of hours during the day. To top it off, a long green worm floats in the center and is a popular plaything for kids and adults to climb on and slide off of while in the pool. The Grand Hotel has had several movies filmed at it, the most famous being Somewhere in Time with Christopher Reeve and Jane Seymour.
