5 Days in Florence, Italy

A September 2004 trip to Florence by lanimaesd

5 Days in Florence, Italy

Overview

Quote:
After flying into Milan from Paris, we took a high-speed train into Florence, where we stayed for 5 days. We had our most memorable meal in Italy at Acqua Al 2. Go on an empty stomach! We took a day trip to Pisa for shopping and sightseeing (to see the Leaning Tower, of course!) and got a first-hand glimpse of Michelangelo's “David.”

Quick Tips:

Have your hotel make a "reservation" to see "David". You just have to show up at your appointed time and will avoid the long lines.

Best Way To Get Around:

Bring your walking shoes! Florence is small enough to be able to walk almost everywhere.

Acqua was recommended by several guidebooks and our hotel. But we heard that it was hard to get a reservation on short notice. On a whim, we showed up early enough (7pm) to secure a table. Boy, were we lucky! This was our best meal in Italy. We feasted on course after course of the best food, paired with a jug of delicious Chianti and finished with a decadent dessert - it was pure gluttony! I advise that you should not leave this restaurant without trying their blueberry steak. Berries with your meat may sound a little odd, but I have yet to find a better steak anywhere else! The atmosphere was lively, and by 8pm every seat was filled. Our server was fun, friendly, and knowledge...Read More
