CitiEurope - the well-kept secret

An October 2004 trip to Calais by janetinoxford

Since the Euro is still within striking distance of the dollar, it is not out of order to suggest a trip to CitiEurope, the well-kept modern shopping center located just outside the main city of Calais.

CitiEurope is a vast enclosed shopping center complete with a Flaunch restaurant and a Carrefour grocery. For a fantastic day of shopping and browsing, it can't be beat. Plus, there are three very nice and reasonably priced hotels just across from the center. Where else can you gaze at the Burghers of Calais, treat yourself to Leonidas chocolates, reflect on the vast history of the northeastern French coast, and take a ferry to Dover if you want? In addition, Calais is in comfortable driving distance of the Belgian cities of Brugge and Ghent. There are good highways into this area from both Paris and Belgium. From the UK, you can take the P&O Ferry or Seafrance, either bringing your car along or taking the shuttle into town. Calais is a wonderful city with sea air that is amazingly invigorating, and I recommend an overnight stay at one of the hotels near CitiEurope. Bon Vacances!
