Peaceful fun

A July 2005 trip to Strasburg by rscoville

An overview of the culture and attractions

The rooms at the Netherlands are not incredibly large, but quite welcoming. Most include two queen-size beds, a mini refrigerator, a television, a desk, air-conditioning, and a washroom and powder room. The grounds are gorgeous, with flowers all over the property. There are chair swings and benches around the property for sitting and enjoying the tranquility of such a resort. I have not been to the on-site spa, but I hear that it is fabulous. The staff is helpful and friendly, and the Inn's talking parrot welcomes you. A hearty breakfast is provided buffet style each morning (no extra charge) to get you ready for the day's activities. The Inn also has a nice (warm) outdoor pool, hot tub, sauna room, and exercise room. Overall, this is a very nice place to stay, one which I recommend.

Applebee’sBest of IgoUgo

Restaurant

Applebee’s offers a very pleasant and laid-back atmosphere where you can relax and enjoy a large, wonderful meal after an exciting day. This is not a place where you go in a suit and have a quiet, romantic dinner. It gives you a great amount of food for your $10 or so. If you're in a laid-back mood and hungry, go there. Try the Grilled Italian Chicken Caesar Salad. Mmmmmmmm.

Cracker BarrelBest of IgoUgo

Restaurant

Cracker Barrel is a place where you can go and enjoy good food and take it easy. There is an old-style store to look through while you are waiting for your table to be prepared. While waiting for your meal, sit back, relax, and maybe even play a brain-teasing game that supposedly measures your intelligence. It's a basic restaurant--just a good time with good food for a good price.

Bob EvansBest of IgoUgo

Restaurant

Bob Evans offers both American and Italian food, a good mix. Their food is fair. Their prices are good. The atmosphere is somewhat pleasant, and I would rate the service as fair. It may be higher depending on the server you get. Overall, it is worth the money, but I prefer Applebee’s and Cracker Barrel.

Hershey ParkBest of IgoUgo

Attraction

Hershey Park is a fantastic park offering a great time for people of all ages. If one is looking for a park exclusively for the kids, Dutch Wonderland probably offers more usable rides for them. However, for ultimate thrills, Hershey has it all. Take in a show with dolphins and sea lions. Relax and listen to a comedy/music show at night. Get SOAKED on the huge log ride. Go on a peaceful sit down animated tour (ride) through the Hershey factory and see how their chocolate is made. Let your feet dangle on the Great Bear and experience a 128-foot drop, and at the same time, wonder if you're facing right side up or upside down. For the ultimate thrill, experience 0 to 72 mph in 2.0 seconds and wonder where your stomach went when you drop 180 feet straight down in the blink of an eye. The kids will enjoy roller coasters like the Trailblazer. There is something for everyone. I highly recommend this park. Enjoy!

Millennium TheatreBest of IgoUgo

Attraction | "Millennium Theater"

One word: FANTASTIC. This theater seats roughly 2,000 (maybe more) and puts on unbelievable live shows/musicals. I have so far seen the story of Noah, Ruth, and more. The enthusiasm the actors put into these shows translates into absolute realism. There is a wonderful combination of speaking and singing, and they are extremely professionally done. What would you expect when they put on four shows a day? I am sure these performances would rival Broadway. The building itself is worth the money. It is truly remarkable. If you're within an hour of this Millennium Theater, take in a show. You will not be disappointed!!

Tanger Outlet CenterBest of IgoUgo

Attraction | "Shopping"

Go to Rockvale Square and the Tanger Outlets if you enjoy shopping. There are well over 100 shops in Rockvale and probably 25 more at Tanger. They range from jewellery stores to electronics shops to home decor to clothing. You can find almost anything here.

Evergreen / Tree Top Golf CoursesBest of IgoUgo

Attraction | "Golf"

The Evergreen golf course is more of a beginner’s course with very short par 4's. It is quite flat, with trouble on either side of many holes, but not a lot of trouble if you stay in on the fairways. It isn't unreasonably long, and the course is in acceptable shape for the money.

The Tree Top course is more hilly and difficult. The par 4's are, again, short, but the par 3's are long, one even 230 yards uphill. Tree Top is in fairly good condition, and a golf cart is recommended because of the hills and the heat (especially in late summer, when it can be 100°F). This course is more challenging, although far from professional. I am not the best golfer and shot mid 90's at Tree Top. I do enjoy a challenge and would recommend this course more than Evergreen, although both are enjoyable.
