Weeks in China

A July 2005 trip to Guangzhou by terrychan

Guangzhou is like a miniature mall with all it has to offer. Shopping is a favorite for many average Americans due to Guangzhou's low prices. Read more in my review.

Great. If you are on a budget, you should get room type A. Room A offers you a river view and a much much larger room. Room B is the cheapest and offers a city view. Although Room B comes 30 yuans cheaper, but Room A is still a much better choice.

If you want luxury in a moderate hotel, you would get the Honored Guest Suite. This was the room I got and it was fantastic. This room is not the cheapest, so don't get it if you don't want to spend to "bangs"; however, if you are on the richer side like me, its worth the bucks. This room is your for 1,000 yuans a night ($125).

Lets go back to standard rooms since thats what most of the people will be staying in.

The standard room A is a large room with comfortable beds, TV, sofa, chairs, tea center, closet, and a changing center.

The bathrooms, however were horrible. They were so horrifying I didn't know how to take a shower. After all, I stayed in this room for one night and decided this room wasn't luxurious enough, so I got the Honored Guest Suite.

But I can ensure you a good night's sleep.

The hotel offers a travel agency, gym, spa, and concierge service. Not too much, but acceptable.

This type of hotel is the best in the city of Guangzhou, so if you don't like my description, you won't like the hotel.

Grand Cloud Palace Restaurant is located on the 26th and 27th floor of the Guangzhou Hotel. (www.gzhotel.com.cn). If you have more than 10 guests dining with you, you are advised to make a V.I.P. room reservation. In the V.I.P. room, there is a sofa, a large window overlooking Guangzhou, a television, karaoke machine, and a miniature kitchen.

However, if you are traveling in small parties, you will just get a table on the 27th floor like everybody else. Prices here are so low, you would nearly faint. Breakfast for 18 inside a V.I.P. room costs about 300 yuan, which is about 40 U.S.D.

This restaurant is highly recommended if you are a hotel guest.
