Winter Break

A July 2005 trip to Cook Islands by tough

What a glorious paradise--unspoiled, clear water, warm temperatures--24 degrees, white sand, great accommodation--we stayed at "Little Polynesia", which has its own beach with free kayaks and snorkels. Our accommodation was self-contained but serviced daily (except Sundays).

Overview

The highlights were the friendly people and great restaurants and cafes.
The two-person scooters were easy to ride and get around the island on.
We enjoyed horse trekking, a tour of the island, snorkeling and a trip in a glass-bottom boat.

The Island Night at The Rarotongan Hotel and the Barbeque Night were great and very enjoyable. Great value for money.

Quick Tips:

Take easy wear clothes--pareus and togs, a sweater for evenings, and old shoes for kayaking and walking around in the water.

Best Way To Get Around:

The best way to get around is to either hire a scooter or there is a bus that goes around the island about every 30 minutes--timetables are easily obtainable.

Attraction

There are a number of side roads that you can choose to run along. There are a range of gradients, but it's generally easy running. The people are very friendly, unlike the dogs. The first morning on Rarotonga, I went running along the beach and had a dog run up behind me and bite my shorts. From then on, I stuck to the road!
