A March 2005 trip to Sedona by sb2003

We stayed south of Sedona in a beautiful area with lots of amenities. It was one of the best RCI exchanges!

Overview

There are a lot of great hiking trails for ALL levels, from casual walking to more advanced rock climbing. You could easily stay and just relax, enjoy views, etc., or take advantage of all there is to see nearby in Sedona and the surrounding areas. The Grand Canyon trip was outstanding

Quick Tips:

The hotel staff has lots of good info. Make use of the Hilton facilities right across from the resort.

Best Way To Get Around:

You need a car. We rented from the airport in Phoenix, about 2 hours away, and drove to Sedona.

Best Things Nearby:
Beautiful views of red rock formations, hiking trails, the Hilton resort pools, and fitness center next door

Best Things About the Resort:
Very nice accommodations; friendly, helpful staff; and a good location, not in Sedona, but a few miles south in village of Oak Creek, which was quiet and scenic

Resort Experience:
This was a great resort!! We requested a unit on the second floor, facing the Hilton, for the best views from our balcony. The resort staff was very helpful with bookings and directions. There were lots of great day trips, activities, and restaurants. There was great weather in March to April. It was one of our best trips!!!

Restaurant | "Javalina Cantina"

This restaurant was recommended by several locals and was really very good. We did not have reservations and had to wait. It had a nice casual atmosphere and very friendly staff. It was located in a shopping area, so you could look at some of the shops while waiting. There were lots of nice art and gift shops.

Enchantment ResortBest of IgoUgo

We missed the Enchantment experience, but I thought I would mention it since two women I met at the Hilton fitness center who lived in the area recommended that we not miss Enchantment. It is expensive. They recommended at least going out there for drinks since it is one of the most beautiful places in the Sedona area. It is a little difficult to find.

This was another restaurant recommended by locals, with daily specials, entertainment, and great food. It is located in the factory outlet complex at the Village of Oak Creek. It was not fancy. I was skeptical, but pleasantly surprised.

Grand Canyon National ParkBest of IgoUgo

Attraction

We took a guided tour in large van to Grand Canyon with an expert guide and went through Oak Canyon and up to the northern rim to start. This allowed for us to walk along the rim (not dangerous) and experience all the beauty of this natural wonder. The van was at the other end to pick us up. The guide shared many stories and his geological expertise along the way.

Story/Tip

Aside from the Grand Canyon visit, which was outstanding, some of the other activities we participated in were horseback riding (one of the best experiences); a trip to Jerome - interesting trip up in the mountains (ate at Haunted Hamburger Restaurant); a trip to Prescott (long day); and the Monument tour with Pink Jeep Tours - scenery was outstanding on the way out. The Indian ruins were interesting, but we had already seen the Montezuma castle, which was a similar experience.
