A May 2005 trip to Amsterdam by himain10ance

I will give you a brief overview of the city and the things we did there. I will touch on the people and the transportation. Hopefully it will ease concerns you may have.

Overview

The most memorable thing about Amsterdam is that you are really there. The people are nice and the city is beautiful. The public transportation is so easy that a child can figure it out. If you are healthy, I urge you to walk everywhere. We walked 10 to 15 miles a day. We did the Anne Frank house, a riverboat tour, and the Heineken Brewery.

Quick Tips:

I believe that most hotels have books and maps for guests when they arrive.

Best Way To Get Around:

As I said above, we walked everywhere. The public transportation system is very easy and fast. Trains are all numbered and maps show right where they go. It is very easy.

It was a cool hotel. The rooms were small, but the staff was nice. The only drawback was the bathroom. It was very small, and the shower was 2.5 feet off the ground. It was not suitable for the elderly or handicapped.

It was great and the staff was fun. The bar overlooks one of the canals. You can even sit outside the bar area on the water.

Attraction

It is a four-story building that houses a lot of Van Gogh's work. It is all broken down into periods of his life, and this is reflected in his work.

Attraction | "Heineken Experience"

If you like beer, it is fun. If for no other reason at all, you should go for the four free beers. You might want to take a train home from there if you are far away.

Attraction

It was nice to be able to travel along and see the city from a different angle. There were areas of the city we got to see that can only be seen by water. It was also relaxing and romantic.

Story/Tip

This was a humbling experience. You actually get to go into the house where the family lived. You get the entire tour; nothing is held back. It is a must for everyone to see and learn from.
