I'll say it up front: I do not enjoy golf. I usually don't even like driving the cart to accompany my husband or friends. However, I have had a bit of a change of heart.
After some particularly effective begging and pleading, I agreed to go with above-mentioned husband and friends to Cane Creek Golf Course in Kilbourne, IL. What a pleasant surprise. In addition to being a challenging course, it's just a great place to be outside. Anyone who’s spent time in Central Illinois knows it is quite flat, and many of the golf courses are carved out of cornfields. This course is hilly, with lots of trees and great views. The front nine is well groomed (especially considering the current drought), although rustic. The fairways are somewhat narrow. The best hole starts at the top of a long hill with a great view over the trees and fields. The back nine is narrow and wooded. Part of it goes through an old Christmas tree farm. You might even spot some prickly-pear cactus. The longest hole is 655 feet and is a par 5.
If you ever find yourself in the area, I would recommend it for the golfer and cart driver alike.
