Sunset on Santorini

A travel journal to Santorini by Klompie

Quote: Years ago I was in Athens and saw this beautiful postcard of white washed houses with bright blue accents on top of a cliff. I made the promiss to myself that one day I would visit this magical place. And magical it is, this island of Santorini.

Sunset on Santorini

Overview

Quote:
Wander the tiny streets of Fira with all its little stores, watch the sunset in Ia, take a boat to the active vulcano island, rent a scooter and tour the island or just relax on Red Beach. Whatever you feel like doing: Santorini has it all.

Quick Tips:

Best Way To Get Around:

Athina

Athina is partially built in the cliff, which ensures spectacular views from each room. Because it is built on the cliff it gives guest a sense of privacy, knowing that "downtown Fira" is a 1 minute walk away though.

The hotel has a beautiful large swimming pool with a view on the sea. A delicious breakfast is served on the terrasse in front of your room the moment you ask for it and includes something else every day.

Try to get room no. 1, which has a small living room with kitchenette and a separate bedroom. It is in the corner so you only have neighbors on one side, so you have a view of the village and of the sea. We loved it!

If you don''t want to make reservations for accommodations in advance, it is very easy to get a room at the port whenever a ferry arrives. Many owners of small bed & breakfast and motels will be awaiting potential guests. Most of the times they will have several pictures with them of the property/rooms. Don''t forget to negotiate with them about the price, they expect you to do that. This way you can also make sure it fits with your budget. The owner will very likely provide transportation to their property.

Attraction | "Sunset in Ia"

Quote:
The picturesque village of Ia is the place to be at the end of the day. People gather here everyday to watch the most beautiful sunset you have ever seen. With typical Greek windmills and small white churches with blue domes surrounding you, the village creates a perfect atmosphere to dream away with a loved one while slowly watching the sun disappear.

If you visit Santorini, you definitely should not miss this experience. I have seen many many sunsets, but this Greek sunset is no. 1 on my list.

One of the most popular ways to get around on Santorini is by scooter. You can rent them almost everywhere, and it gives you lots of freedom. You can stop anywhere on the side of the road to enjoy one of the many gorgeous views that Santorini has to offer. It is also an ideal way of transportation if you want to visit Red Beach.

Red Beach is a unique beach: it really looks red because of the red colored lava stones/sand and red lava rocks surrounding the beach. You have to make an effort to go to this beach though: you will have to climb over some rocks and go down a pretty steep path in order to get there. But ... it is well worth it, I promise.

Wine tasting

Story/Tip

Quote:
On the road from Fira to Kamari, you will find a winery on the right hand side. You can taste different wines, walk around and learn more about the wine making process. The staff was very friendly and the wine was actually pretty good.
