Your base of operations in Palau will most likely be in the main city of Koror, a bustling metropolis of hotels, restaurants, shops, and dive operators. Until recently, it was the capital and still exists as the center of commerce in Palau. Once you are settled in your hotel, you will want to plan your activities. It is a great low-cost destination with a friendly staff and a good location close to town, restaurants, and shopping. It is a ways from a swimming beach but relatively close to dive operators in Malakal. It offers free airport transfers.

This small hotel in the upper price range is worth the splurge. The four pristine cottages are next to a good beach. You can walk the 50 yards to the reef from the beach. Great food and drinks are available on-site. Completion of the compact road will make this spot very popular in months to come. Tours are available to various cultural locations, and each cottage has a tiny deck just perfect for a couple. It has a very romantic setting.

A great place to meet expatriates and locals, with a dart board and large U-shaped bar. There is also a television for watching sports, limited food menu, and plenty of cold local Red Rooster beers.
