Birmingham, England!!

A travel journal to Birmingham by dan-ish

Some recommendations and simply me waxing lyrical about the place I was born - Birmingham

Birmingham is a city of mixed cultures that has arguably the best shopping centre in the UK, alongside world-class attractions such as Cadbury World and the ThinkTank. It has all that you could expect from a city: fine dining, excellent shopping, a vibrant nightlife, and even a vast network of canals! It's simply a great city, with lovely people and a great vibe - come and see for yourselves.

Quick Tips:

For quick food, go to the BullRing shopping centre, but for something a bit more leisurely, try Brindley Place, off Broad Street.

For some truly unique bargains, try the Oasis market just off Corporation Street.

For some open space, try the park surrounding St Pauls Cathedral, known locally as Pigeon Park.

Go to Sarehole Mill and Moseley bog - the true inspiration for "The Lord of the Rings!"

Best Way To Get Around:

The city centre is where it all happens, and that is easily negotiable on foot. For out-of-town attractions, such as Cadbury World, the bus is easy and economical.

Restaurant

This is a classy restaurant with good service and an original decor to match the imaginative menu. The prices are reasonable considering you get substantial portions of delicious food, and the wine list certainly impressed the non-drivers amongst our party. All in all, it was a pleasant dining experience in a comfortable urban setting.

Restaurant | "Moseley"

Moseley is a village within a city. It has numerous pubs, but also some great restaurants. There is La Fibule, the delicious Moroccan, and opposite is one of the great Italians, Ponte Di Legno. The other (and in my opinion, better) Italian is Little Italy on St Mary's Row. Obviously when you think Birmingham, you think Indian, and Moseley is no exception. The Kababish is probably the pick, but K2 comes close and even has live jazz on Wednesdays. There are also French and Spanish restaurants that have been highly recommended. So there is something for everyone’s tastes in Moseley, and no shortage of places to go for a drink afterwards.
