Central Avenue (Route 66) passes through Albuquerque like an artery which connects other roads. UNM lies just along Central Avenue about 2 miles east of Downtown. Starting around Downtown, crossing I-25 and then onto UNM & the posh Nob Hill area, Central Avenue is dotted with trendy night clubs and bars where you sure can find some entertainment for a lonely evening or try the wild side of Saturday Nights.I sure have many interesting tales to tell about the clubs of Downtown Albuquerque.

Quick Tips:

Best Way To Get Around:

Well, Public Transportation is seldom seen in Alb and I may be prudent to suggest that you drive your way around. Cabs cost you a bunch in this town and renting a car would be a wise decision.

Frontier RestaurantBest of IgoUgo

Restaurant

Frontier is the place where i eat almost every other day!! I live on the same street as Frontier and hence can't miss out on heading there for a quick bite for lunch or dinner. Located just across UNM, Frontier is the ideal place for college students to congregate and just hang out or to escape the Food at NM student's Union! This renders the place a lively atmosphere. It's open 24 hours a day, almost every day in the year except on Thanksgiving, Christmas Day and New Year's Eve. The food is New Mexican and Mexican, and the free sample of New Mexico Chili is highly recommended!! The prices are nominal and a hearty meal could cost you around $7-10 per person.
Watch out on Saturday nights as the place gets crowded with party crowd and may get unruly. Nice place, Nice Atmosphere and Great Food

Olympia CafeBest of IgoUgo

Restaurant | "Olympia Greek Restaurant"

Olympia is on Central Avenue just a few yards away from Frontier Restaurant, along Harvard Drive. It's a speciality Greek Place and a sure bang for your buck. Worth every dime of it !, Not too expensive, and the cuisine can really fill you up. If you are just looking for a quick snack, then you can try some of the delicious gyro sandwiches. Eggplant Moussakas are worth the try, and the kabobs are heavenly. Finish off with Rizogalo (Rice Pudding).

SaggiosBest of IgoUgo

Restaurant | "Saggio's"

Saggio's Pizzas and sandwiches attract the beer guzzling college crowd. This place also relies on the spectator sport action where you can watch the latest in sports while you wait for your order. The typical waiting time of orders is around 25-35 minutes !!!. This drives me nuts every time I visit this place. But its worth the wait for a taste of the Italian Sandwiches & some great pizzas. The calzones and focacia sandwiches are the best I have had. Better order some beer along with your order to keep you busy during your wait for your food !!

El Pinto RestaurantBest of IgoUgo

Restaurant | "El Pinto"

This place sure had captured my attention. A fine place to eat, but people without reservations are frowned upon and asked to wait !!. Great Food though, mainly Mexican fare, and a wide variety to choose from. Typically would cost you around $ 25-$35 person, but it is a great place to have a romantic dinner !!

India PalaceBest of IgoUgo

Restaurant

A great place to taste East Indian Food. If you have time, then you can try out their all-you-can-eat lunch buffets through which you will have a good variety of Indian Foods to choose from while avoiding the problem of having to choose any one particular Dish to eat off the menu. Serves food mainly from North India. As you know North & South Indian food varies incredibly and this place sure lives up to a great expectation of what a typical Indian Restaurant in the United States is !. Try the Tandoori dishes or the Biriyani. Ask for the degree of spice in your food or else you would huff and puff your way through your dinner. Worth a try !

New Mexico is a fun place to be in, in contrary to the popular belief of it being an US Defense State. Yes, it has a few Research labs, and the Wen Ho Lee famous Los Alamos (home to the Manhattan project of the 1940s).Actually, this results in the fact that the state has more PhDs than any other state in the nation. Although, you can pass up Albuquerque in less than 20 minutes if you are on the freeway, it is still the largest town in the state. Albuquerque & Santa Fe constitute about 60% of the population of the state !. A nice mix of Anglo, Hispanic and Native American Culture give the state a unique blend. Taos and Sandia Offer some world class ski facilities, the food is fantastic. Santa Fe and Taos have some good art communities. Overall, its a fun place to be in.
