Second Honeymoon in Las Vegas

A June 2005 trip to Las Vegas by familytraveler3

We stayed at Treasure Island, and it was great. The service was unbelievable, and our room was clean, decorated in good taste, and the bed was comfortable. We would return for another stay in a heartbeat!

It was our first time at the TI, and we loved it! We stayed 3 nights, arriving on a Sunday evening. The staff and service was great! The check-in time was quick, and they met our requests. The bellman was polite, friendly, and more than happy to help us in anything. Our room was nice and clean, and the bed was comfortable. We were given drink coupons, a free Sirens VIP hotel guest pass, and discount coupons for other meals within the hotel. Get the MGM Mirage players card for extra bonuses, too!

Entering in the hotel, it smelled as of tropical coconut in the A/C, which was a fresh smell compared to the smoking casinos in other hotels. The drink lounges were nice, and the Dishes buffet was a little pricey, but worth the meal. But our favorite meal and place to eat at TI was Kahunaville - love that place! They have the best meal and drinks by far. Get the Big Kahuna drink just for some fun, and it was yummy, too! The Kahunaville bar was fun too at night. The bartenders entertain you by tossing the bottles in the air and with the dueling pianos - very funny!

We would return again to the TI for our next visit!

Carnegie DeliBest of IgoUgo

Restaurant

Well, we decided to try the deli due to it being famous in New York and other people's recommendations. Boy, we were surprised! It was the WORST meal on our Vegas trip. The service was horrible, it was crowded, and they were cramming customers in right and left!

My husband ordered scrambled eggs with meat and a side of potatoes. I had ordered an egg salad sandwich on white with a side of coleslaw. My husband's potatoes were cold, and the eggs were way overcooked. My egg salad sandwich on white was warm, the bread was dry, and the slaw was warm. This was from it sitting under a warmer too long.

I requested a new meal and was finally giving a new one by the assistant manager with no apologies. He and the manager were too busy busting tables and not concerned with the temperature of the food and quality coming out of the kitchen!

After trying to finish our meal, we went to the hotel manager to inform them of the service and the quality of the food coming. We were comped our meal and given an apology from the manager. The manager was very concerned about it and was going to get in touch with the food director and restaurant manager.

I would think twice about eating there again!

Peppermill RestaurantBest of IgoUgo

Restaurant | "Pepper Mill Lounge and Restaurant"

I have to say we eat here everytime we come to Vegas. I have been eating at the Pepper Mill Lounge since I was a little girl, and it is always good!

The restaurant is in typical lounge/restaurant style. It is clean, and the seating is comfortable in the round-shaped booths.

The food is awesome, and the prices are reasonable. But best of all, they give you large portions. I mean a lot of food! So go there with an appetite!

KahunavilleBest of IgoUgo

Restaurant | "Kahunaville Restaurant and Bar"

We ate one night the Kahunaville restaurant by a whim, and I would have to say that it was the best meal we have eaten in long time!

The service was great and the restaurant was clean. Eating in the restaurant area, you get the dancing water show every 10 minutes or so. Our waiter was helpful in choosing our meal and recommended the Big Kahuna drink. It was basically for two! It comes in a big scooner that you can keep, but it’s worth the money you pay.

Afterwards, go into the bar for some other entertainment from the bartenders’ performances and dual pianos. It was one of the most enjoyable evenings by far!

Grand BuffetBest of IgoUgo

Restaurant | "MGM Grand Buffet"

We have eaten before at the Grand Buffet and wanted to try it again. We decided to eat there on our last night in Vegas. It was a little expensive at $24.99 per person, so you want to eat a lot to feel that you got your money’s worth!

They have a great variety of foods and a nice selection of salads. The best part is that they have prime rib, cold or steamed crab legs, mussels, and cold or hot shrimp. Also, we saw sushi. There was a great hot section, too, but the desserts were the best!

Overall, we enjoyed our meal, even though we had to loosen the belt notches a bit!

Dishes BuffetBest of IgoUgo

Restaurant | "Dishes"

We ate the first night at the Dishes Buffet because it was at the hotel we were staying at. The cost per person was $20 each. It wasn’t too bad, but there could have been more of a selection on salads to make up for the price of charging.

They had a nice selection of hot side dishes, sushi, and meat. The salads were mostly ordering a green salad of some form, like Cobb, BLT, or others. The desserts weren't too bad, and they even had cotton candy for the kid in you!

For us, we have tried it and probably wouldn't eat there again, because you can add an additional $5 per person and go to the MGM Grand Buffet to get a large selection and better quality of food for the price.
