Overview

A hidden place called Kitchen on 8th Avenue and 21st has Dona Maria moles, fresh and dried chilies, food to go, and Mexican crafts.

Western Beef is a very good store for cilantro, jalapenos, and habaneros.

This is an excellent Cuban restaurant. The tostones and yucas are delicious. The lamb is great. The menu is extensive and varied. Service is very friendly. The Latin cocktails are great. Music, old fashioned romantic ballads and modern salsa, is very good.

This is a very popular Chelsea restaurant. Reservations are critical. The cuisine is more nouveau Mexican rather than traditional. It is very good though, especially the appetizers. The menu has a good tequila and wine selection.

This is a simple Cuban restaurant. The beans, rice, and tostones are delicious. Service is very friendly. The cafe con leche is very good. Very inexpensive.

This is a great and inexpensive Cuban/Puerto Rican diner. The service is very good and friendly. The rice, beans, and tostones are great as is the coffee. The cliente is a good mix of Latins and others.

Story/Tip

This is an excellent small shop with a great selection of chilies, canned sauces and moles, and food to go. It also has good cookbooks and a small selection of great Mexican crafts. It is located on eight avenue and 22nd.

This store has a good selection of produce, chorizo, cilantro and chilis for Mexican and other Latin cooking. The prices are very reasonable. It is located on 14th and 9th in the meatpacking district.
