Hometown Proud

Tallahassee seems to be a metropolitan oasis in a huge southern sea. It has the best of both worlds. I liken it to deeply scaled-down Atlanta without the glitz, but with the grits.

Overview

downtown tallahassee
There is a huge push to get "downtown" working 18 hours a day. Try Cool Grindz Lounge, Andrew's and Clyde's, and Costello's. They are all within a few walking blocks from the capitol. Cool Grindz borders a beautifully lit downtown park for a nice stroll through moss-draped oaks.

Quick Tips:

Friday's Limelight magazine doesn't have everything listed, but it's the best you are going to find. It comes out as a free publication or is included in the local paper, the Tallahassee Democrat.

Best Way To Get Around:

You need wheels, because Tallahassee really doesn't have a centralized core. It is very spread-out. There is no grid system to the roads, and each main road goes by at least three names, so be prepared to ask directions.

Restaurant | "Barnacle Bill's Oyster Bar"

This is a locally owned and operated, quintessentially North Florida oyster bar. Outside the deck are sports, music, and local people-watching, and the main dining room has a large aquarium, booths, and a traditional oyster bar in the center of the room. The back room has a large bar, large-screen TV, and the underneath is a young folks-type lounge. Up top, you will see the best diverse clientele mixing it up and having a great time. Everyone loves this oyster bar!
