Hilton Head has lots to do, and it's easy to get around on an rented bicycle. You can't enter the exclusive Sea Pines Plantation on a bike--it'll cost you five dollars per carload to get in. Beaches most crowded I've seen. Pool at Coral Sands too small!

Coral Sands

Best Things Nearby:
Shopping center with Cold Marble Ice Cream store and the Smokehouse restaurant.

Best Things About the Resort:
Loved the warm weather and warm Atlantic Ocean nearby. Fun bicycling because everything is flat. Alligators all around!

Resort Experience:
Six separate buildings, each with six to eight units on two floors. All units are single level, with large kitchens, two baths, and two or three bedrooms. Furnishings were tasteful and comfortable. All had patios or balconies. Kitchen pantry area was a welcome addition. Air conditioning was a pleasant relief from the outdoor humidity, and was easily adjusted.

There were a couple of shortcomings: the pool was set up the whole time with a volleyball net across it and two basketball hoops. It's really too small a pool to do triple duty as a volleyball area, a basketball area, and a swimming pool. I saw a grandma get hit in the head with a volleyball! There's no kiddie pool. They also had no extra kitchen utensils available to borrow for baking cookies, making pizza, or barbecuing.

The island is flat, the bikes are well tuned and have relatively fat tires, and the seats are easily adjusted for height. Get a wagon for towing all your beach gear, since it only costs an extra 16 dollars per week for the wagon. You can ride your bike on the beach (it's okay with the rental company!) to some really quiet areas, and that way you get away from the crowds. There are showers and bathrooms at all the pathways down onto the beach so you can wash off the sand.
