Tea Time in London

Overview

London--an amazing city! There are so many sights and a massive amount of intriguing architecture in this city. I was only able to stay in London for three days, but it was by far one of my favorite stops. Given the chance, I would return to London in a heartbeat. While in London, Westminster Abbey, The changing of the guard, Tower of London, Big Ben, and St. Paul's Cathedral are a few of the sights you don't want to miss! Also, don't forget Covent Garden, Buckingham Palace, the crown jewels, dining in a genuine English pub, and taking a ride on the subway! London is packed with exciting things to do day and night!

Quick Tips:

Best Way To Get Around:

Hard Rock Cafe

Restaurant | "Hard Rock Cafe - London"

Quote:
Although I love dining in Hard Rock Cafes, I was thoroughly disappointed in this particular location. The atmosphere and decor was accurate--music videos playing, musical things on the walls, etc. However, the food and service was terrible. I received a partially raw hamburger and they refused to correct their mistake, as well as cold french fries. The waitress never checked back in on us, and serice was incredibly slow overall.

Starbucks

Restaurant

Quote:
Starbucks in England is certainly nothing like American Starbucks. They do not serve many of the drinks that we serve, and their coffee is much weaker than ours. While you receive good service, the product is not pleasing to American taste buds and is even more overpriced than Starbucks in the US.

English Pubs

Restaurant | "Any English Pub"

Dining in an English pub is an interesting experience, and one worth having. While the food was definitely nothing I would normally eat, it was surprisingly good. The atmosphere of the pubs is fun and relaxing. If you go to England, go to a pub at least once... it is part of the English culture.

Changing of the Guard Photo, London, England
Quote:
The changing of the guard is a fun experience. It is very ceremonial and includes horses and a small marching band. This is a must-see if you are in London. A helpful tip: Once people see the band pass, they tend to assume the show is over. However, another small group will soon come from the other direction, so stick around to see it!

Tower of London

Attraction

Quote:
The Tower of London is a great place to spend an afternoon. If possible, hire a tour guide for this site. There is a great deal of very interesting history that goes along with the complex. This is a darker part of England's history. For the Shakespeare buffs, the Tower of London is one location in Richard III. If you only go to one tower, make it Salt Tower - you can still smell the stench of blood from the killings that took place in it.

Although I did not have the opportunity to go to the Tower Bridge, I did get to see it as I walked by it to visit the Tower of London. It is a beautiful bridge, and it is often confused with London Bridge. If you have a chance, at least get a glimpse of this elaborate bridge.

Westminster Abbey is a great sight. Its architecture is beautiful and ornate. Unfortunately, by touring with a group, I did not have the opportunity to go inside, but if you have the time and money, I would recommend doing so.

Covent Garden

Attraction

Quote:
Covent Garden is a unique shopping area in London. It is sort of like an outlet mall with separate stores. There are bakeries, jewelry shops, toy stores, glassware, bookstores, and much more - there is surely something to suit everyone's taste. The square also has its own entertainment. There are mimes in the area, as well as an occasional performer. One thing to be aware of is that there is almost always a religious extremist ranting in an outside area of Covent Garden, so try to avoid that area, or else you will be forced to listen to what they have to say.

This isn't so much of a journal entry as it is a way to include some more photos. These are photos of locations I saw but did not get to visit, so I do not have enough to write a journal entry about them.
