One of the most beautiful cities on the planet, Chicago has something for everyone. There is great shopping on Michigan Avenue and great sports at Wrigley. With tall skyscrapers and little houses, it is truly amazing.

Chicago, IL

Overview

Obviously, the Sears Tower is a major site to see. There was also the Seadog Speed Boat lake tour. The Navy Pier is a must-see attraction.

Quick Tips:

Plan for an entire day in the city. A few hours doesn't cut it usually - maybe if it was a few hours every day.

Best Way To Get Around:

There are many forms of transportation. Things like the bus, taxi, and subway are found in every large city. The thing that Chicago has going for it that most other cities don't is a water taxi. This takes you down the Chicago River, where you get great views of the interior of the city.

This is a crazy place. My uncle took me when I was little and I was shocked. The staff is paid to be rude to the customers. Overall, the place has a fun atmosphere. Don't worry about them doing something to your food. I believe that's illegal anyway. The waiters will throw cups at you, though. I remember that last time, a man asked for some whipped cream, and the waitress came by and (on his girlfriend's command) put the whipped topping all over the guy's shirt. She, of course, then helped him to clean the shirt. After that, the waitress jumped on the counter and started to dance. The restaurant has a ‘50s America theme, and the waiters and waitresses are dressed accordingly. It is a very fun place if you have a good personality and you don't mind rudeness. My family and I go back every time we are in the Chicago area.

Gino's East

Restaurant

Gino's East

The original creator of the Chicago deep-dish pizza, Gino's East is a great place to go. The interior is painted black, and you can leave your mark anywhere you want. They actually let you write on their walls, chairs, and tables. The food is delicious, but if you get a deep-dish pizza, plan on waiting about an hour for it to be served to you. Believe me, it is well worth the wait. While you wait, you could order an appetizer or a delicious bowl of creamy minestrone soup (the only place I have ever known to serve a cream minestrone soup!).

Seadog Boat Tour -- Woof! Woof!

It was amazing. The tour is informative and the boat is exciting. I had never been on a speedboat before, so I wasn't sure what to expect. This is the largest speedboat I had ever seen. 2000 horsepower is really amazing! The tour guides are very nice and will help you out with anything.

Museum of Science and Industry

What a place! Everything about this place is amazing. The exhibits are top-notch and the building is one of the only surviving buildings from the 1893 Chicago World's Fair. A lot of the exhibits are hands-on, which makes it the perfect place for a family. The museum is quite large, so be ready to walk!

Sears Tower

Who couldn't resist the once world's tallest, and still the Western hemisphere's tallest, building? Admission is quite expensive, but worth it if you want one of the best views of the city. The walls in the middle of the sky deck display the history of the city, so it's very culturally educational. Once again, it has the best views of Chicago.

John G. Shedd Aquarium and Oceanarium

This is one of the largest aquariums I have ever seen. There are TONS of fish everywhere! It is a great place for a family. The eating area overlooks the lake, with a great view!

Great America/Six Flags

This is a large park that has something for everyone. From top-notch thrill rides to peaceful dining, this place really has it all. The park isn't too far out of the way at only 37 miles from the city.

Navy Pier

Wow! This is such a wonderful place. There is a large shopping mall on the pier, as well as a very large Ferris wheel. The Ferris wheel is about $3 per person to ride. You have to board while the wheel is moving, which was a bit shocking to my and my family. The pier really has a lot to offer.

It's quite a large zoo. We went on a rainy day, so the outdoor animals weren't very outgoing. Just plan to go on a sunny day and you and your family will have a great time!
