New York City

A March 2003 trip to New York by blueneptune_14

It is a beautiful city. I didn't have the chance to do Central Park or anything like that, but I did go to the Empire State Building and on a harbor cruise. There is great sightseeing on the cruise, and it was a blast from the past with the Empire State Building.

Overview

It was definately the Empire State Building. Built in the 1930s, it's still one of the world's tallest buildings. The Circle Line Cruise was also a very great thing to do. They offer a few different length tours.

Quick Tips:

Some of the hotels might have a discount booklet or a coupon booklet. I went with a school group, so we got a booklet of coupons for tons of places, such as the Empire State Building, Circle Line cruises, and many more.

A tip for the Empire State Building would be ready to wait in a very long and hot queue. If you have a fear of many people, this is not the city, and definitely not the building, for you. Get there early for a good place in line.

Best Way To Get Around:

New York is a city of walking people. Everybody walks everywhere because everything is usually a short distance from everything else. To go longer distances, you can take a bus, cab, or the subway. The subway isn't as bad as it is made out to be in the movies, so don't be paranoid about it. It's far cheaper than a taxi.

This place was great. It wasn't too far from Manhattan. Hotels in New Jersey tend to be much cheaper. The only catch to New Jersey is traveling into the city. Have a road map with you! The highways can be very confusing.

The hotel was great overall. The staff was very nice and took care of us. The rooms were also pleasant. There were no great views to speak of, but sport arenas aren't very far from the hotel. Also, Medieval Times is near the sports arenas.

Restaurant

This has a delightful atmosphere with a great show. I wasn't sure if I should put this in dining or as an activity. The menu is set and listed on the website (http://www.medievaltimes.com/). The price includes both the meal and the show. I don't know if they offer special vegetarian cuisine, but I'm sure if you call, you can get that information.

The place is great for special occasions and is really a blast from the past. Remember, there is no silverware, so if that bothers you, bring some plastic silverware with you.
