A July 2005 trip

Quote: If you want a first roller-coaster experience for somebody, go here. There’s a water park that is free with your admission to the park. Overall, this is a fun place for a family/group of friends to go. I suggest getting tickets at a credit union, as the tickets are much cheaper.
There are some rides that can be considered thrill rides. There is the Hyper Sonic XLC, which is the world’s first compressed air-launch roller coaster. The park also boasts one of the world’s only 17 stand-up roller coasters, The Shockwave. They have an artificial mountain in which the Volcano Blast Coaster goes into and out of. It is the parks only inverted-style coaster. The effects are complete with fire shooting from the top of mountain. The park is great for first-time roller-coaster riders. If you want a good ride, try the Rebel Yell. It is a wooden racing coaster with thrilling hills. If you have somebody who is going on an upside-down looped coaster for the first time, the Anaconda is a wonderful choice. The older rides have been updated to maintain modern safety guidelines. Most roller coasters now have a seat belt to accompany the lap bar or shoulder harness. Some have a belt that connects the shoulder harness to the train car itself.
The park doesn’t only have roller coasters. There is the new Drop Zone, which takes you up a tall tower and drops you at nearly the speed of gravity. New to the 2005 season, the Tomb Raider Firefall ride spins you upside-down while going back and fourth on a pendulum-type structure with fire and water effects. King’s Dominion also has a newly renovated water park, which is free with your admission.
The park is very family-friendly. I haven’t been with a child or as a child in years, but I only see smiling faces on the children that pass me by. As I said, this is a nice park for a family or a group of friends looking to get away and have some fun for a day.
