A must for every Montreux visit is a boat ride on Lake Geneva. I took the "happy hour" boat, a one-hour short cruise with a lovely breeze and 2-for-1 drinks.Quick Tips: Make sure to get the "Riviera Card" upon check-in to your hotel. It allows you to travel free of charge on the whole city transportation system and offers many discounts on theater and events in the city.Best Way To Get Around: while traveling in Switzerland, I ALWAYS get a Swiss Pass before I leave (I order it on www.MySwitzerland.com or www.RailEurope.com). It's an all-in-one pass and covers unlimited travel in first or second class. So I can hop on any urban transportation - train, postal bus, and even boats - a gr...Read More

This is a three-star hotel with mostly updated, clean rooms and a very friendly welcome by helpful und upbeat staff. Even though the room on the third floor was rather small, and the TV covered mostly "snow program" on every other channel, the view from the little balcony topped it off big time.

Be aware that the bar, located on street level and the local hang-out for the hip, young crowd, provides for a mostly high background noise level till closing time around 1pm - this little hotel is perfectly located, with bus station, boat platform, and the Montreux Tourism Info Center right across the street.

While we had booked our hotel in Montreux - Hotel Splendid, which is located on the main lake promenade and turned out to be a very lovely little three-star hotel with the nicest staff and an even nicer view from the balcony - we decided to take a 10-minute bus ride to check out the old town of Vevey. After walking through the old town and along the lake, we came across the prettiest of outside dining, or terraces, as they call them - it turned out to be the meal of a lifetime! We felt terribly underdressed in our summer dresses and casual attire, but the staff was so friendly and asked us right away if we'd like to see the menu - no, was our answer, just a table. They gave us the best seat in in...Read More

Rochers-de-Naye

Attraction

It's a very - and I mean very, very - steep funicular that takes you from the Montreux train station to the "house mountain" called Rochers de Naye at 2,000m. A great summer excursion to visit the marmots, have a stroll in the alpine garden, or just to really take a deep breath of fresh alpine air and to stare at the magnificent alpine range.

In winter, the mountaintop area is magically converted into Santa's workshop - a truly unique holiday market with lovely chalet-type huts where you can buy handicrafts and even visit Santa himself.
