Overview

At dinner at the Hula Hut
We go to Austin for two things: food and music. My girlfriend is a vegetarian, and Austin is one of the best places for vegetarian-friendly restaurants. Also, you can stop into most any bar and see quality music.

Quick Tips:

I suggest avoiding 6th Street. It is pretty shiny, but it lacks character. We saw live music at the Contintential Club on South Congress and at the Oasis on Lake Travis. Our favorite restaurants are the West Lynn Cafe and the Hula Hut on Lake Austin.

Best Way To Get Around:

The Dillos are free!!! Austin has a great free public transportation system. Take advantage of it!
I simply love this place. It is a leisure hotel that is meant to be enjoyed. It's not the fanciest, but certainly the coolest hotel ever. “The Mavericks” have a song about it. Please check it out.

I just love this place. It is on Lake Austin and is a mix of Polynesian and Mexican cuisine. It is run by the same people who gave us Chuy's. You can't beat it for the mix of atmosphere and food.

This is the best place to see a sunset in Texas. Perched in the hills above Lake Travis, you see the beautiful views of the water. The food is fantastic, and the music is great on the deck.

Guero's Taco BarBest of IgoUgo

Restaurant

What I love about Austin, and Guero's in particular, is that the waiters are cooler than anyone I know. The food here is great, and it is a great place to sit back and drink some cold Coronas after a long, hot Texas day.

It's not the first place you'd think of for a music weekend, but it does have an amazing collection of the flora of central Texas. This would be a fantasic place for a wedding.
