Quick Tips:

Best Way To Get Around:

Vaporetti Water taxi Walking
Small and friendly with a balcony overlooking the canal. It was a little expensive for a pensione and the rooms were small but it was clean. Most pensiones are like this in Venice.

Restaurant

This was a favorite for a breakfast of frittatas and cappuccino. More like a diner than anything, this trattoria was old but clean and the service was quick.

Attraction

A visit here is a must. A great place to ponder Venetian culture and history, it is the center of Venice' sight- seeing tours after the canal rides, of course.

Attraction

There are many miles to walk in Venice. Get your walking shoes out and explore, especially the back streets where little treasures can be found.

Story/Tip

typical canal view.
Venice is a beautiful city in spring or fall. There are too many tourists during the summer months. This city is a typical tourist trap so take extra money. The back streets yield small shops which have unique merchandise from hand-made masks to knitted shawls. The vaporetto or water taxi are the mode of travel here but there are lots of places to walk. Many pictuesque bridges and balconies line the canals which in some places can be a little littered. The Rialto bridge and its surroundings are a forefront and I recommend dinner at one of the exclusive restaurants in this area. A visit to the Palazzo Ducale is a must but the city is a spectacle in itself. Accommodations can be costly but if you scout the back streets you will find some small pensiones with reasonable prices. I liked Venice but found it a little expensive. Nevertheless, it was worth the visit. A city built on the water is unique.
